Christmas Rapid accessories

Hello all

Was pleasantly surprised to find both front and rear Spaceback mudflaps under the tree this morning, along with a chrome trim panel to affix to the bottom of the boot hatch. I'm hoping it will look good alongside the metal boot lip protector I've got lined up to go on the car.

Anyone else get any car bits today?

Chris

Sadly no [emoji17]

Last time I got someone to buy me a gift for the car it didn't fit, wrong part. Such a fuss to get it refunded. I vowed never again suggest a part for the car as a gift, better to get the money, vouchers etc. I don't really need anything car related anyway.

Got a build up of Amazon vouchers now to spend though.

I got front and rear mudflaps, front and rear chrome door kick plates, and the MDI cable. And some money towards my new head unit. Santa has been good to me. Never thought I'd ask for mudflaps for Christmas!

I'm glad it wasn't just me that asked for them for Christmas :)

Sounds like some great bits. Did you get the genuine Skoda kick plates or the all-metal ones from Germany? Also - which MDI cable?

I got a white USB charger, keyring, black rubber key cover and Skoda seatbelt pads

Still to fit my wind deflectors and remove the rear badges but it's been too cold to wash the car. Looks like Monday or Tuesday could be the best days to do it.

They're the ones I got, they look really nice, not fitted yet and the snow is beating down so probably won't be till after new year.

The MDI cable is a BMW lightening/aux cable for ipod. So I can use the skip function finally.

Just need to get the head unit, lowered and Vinyled roof. Hahaha!

I nearly bought the same kick plates, they look really nice. In the end I settled for this pack which included the boot lip protector. Not as nice as your set, but worked out a bit cheaper all together: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/111338970664?nav=SEARCH

The BMW Lightning adapter is excellent - audio quality is spot-on and having full control of the iPod/iPhone or iPad connected to it from the steering wheel is great. Also nice having track names displayed on the radio - it annoys me that the Bluetooth implementation in our cars is so basic.

What head unit are you going for. Assume you have a Swing at the moment. Are you going for a Columbus or Amundsen, or going completely third party?

They look good! I'll take some pics once mine are in.

Can't wait to use the the mdi properly something that's been bugging me for ages. Funny that BMW came to the rescue.

Going to go Columbus I think. Don't really want third party. They're about £500 on eBay and I think someone on here retrofitted one from the seller I plan to buy from so I know it'll work as planned. Just think it'll add that little bit of extra gadgety/classy look if you will to the cars interior, plus being useful as I'm always balancing my phone in places to use the nav.

Good move to the Columbus [emoji106]

It will transform the cars interior look as did my Amunsden. The Sat Nav is excellent and your phone connects to it seamlessly [emoji4]

I was debating on whether to get this rear panel for the tailgate or if it's too OTT ?

Just thought of a bit of colour break up.

It's 78 Euros from Milotec.

Thats what I have in Silver, well worth having. makes a big difference and is more robust for scratches and scrapes than the bare painted bumper lip.

Do make sure you get the right one, there are subtle fitment differences between the ones for the notchback and spaceback.

After giving this some very serious consideration, and bidding on a few Amundsen and Columbus units on eBay, I decided in the end to just invest in a new removable sat nav unit. Last week I replaced my very good Garmin Nuvi 2445 with the latest Nuvi 2569 model - full Western European maps, lifetime map updates, lifetime DAB-based digital traffic service delivery and two years of speed camera updates, all for £102 thanks to a range of discounts and spot offers the day I bought it from Halfords.

Will never look as slick as a built-in nav unit (and I may yet revisit getting an integrated unit in a year or two from now), but for now it's progress and should look as good as the 2445 did once I've snagged the new cable and hooked it up to the hidden 12v socket I fitted.

I actually meant the Black panel behind the number plate although the lip trim is a good thought too [emoji106]

Aha - looking a bit closer at the pic I see what you mean (didn't even notice it initially).

Personal opinion - panel behind the number plate looks very plasticy and out of place, I would give it a miss. Recommendation still stands for the lip protector though - has a practical function.

I've the same kick plates as you - they are quite long and can go onto the curved part of the sill if not placed carefully.  Mark the placement on the sills before you uncover the tape.

Columbus is a good idea - it's customisable for a start - speed cameras etc -which Amundsen isn't :(

I have my speedcamera alerts or alternative NAV on the phone which clips on the right hand vent so I can see it!

this clip is cheap and cheerful but does the job:

Thanks for the link!   Just had to get the T Cut out to remove a couple of scuffs that a careless driver has applied to the door sill! (me! :0)   Kick strips will solve that issue!

Must admit now it looks a bit tacky as an add on panel. The lip protector is a must though [emoji106]

Looks really good. Any issues with getting everything working (Maxidot integration, phone mic etc)?
