Battery drain!

Featured Replies

Hi I really new to this so please go easy

I just bought a fabia vrs 53 plate and I have just started up and it makes a weird clicking sound coming from dash board driver side

Also my battery goes flat as well.. New battery so that can't be the issue

Also interior light does not come on or show that the door is opened on the dash (intermittent)

Are these issues related?

All help would be grateful

Thanks

Probably the microswitch in the driver's door lock unit. A very common problem. Does your lights-on warning bleeper work when you open the driver's door with your lights switched on?

clicking noise could be the air con flap motor also a common problem - cheers Stuart

No sound when lights and I open the door

Also ticking sound lasts for 15 mins

No sound when lights and I open the door

Microswitch is most likely faulty. Google 'Fabia door microswitch'. This problem is not related to your other ones.

Ok thanks TMB for your help I will tell the garage about this problem...

Now I need to sort out why my battery keeps going flat I have done all the checks ie check all lights are out when looking the door etc

Three causes of flat battery.

1) Duff battery ,which looses charge overnight.

2) Low charge rate from alternator ,not replacing what's taken out, and glow plugs finishing off job.

3) Drain .

Most of the fast fit places offer a free battery check, and sometimes a charge rate check. If all ok, then it's a drain ,which can be a pain to find. Eliminate first by disconnecting battery overnight and reconnect first thing. Then it's down to individual circuits and working out which ones are on with ignition off. Then it's down to puling fuses overnight. I'd suggest half of those at a time. Then half of the ones which cause a flat battery etc.

Thanks for the reply VWD I will get her running and then disconnect the cables and see what happens. It drains the battery within a matter of hours.... It's really becoming a joke now

I would like to say I have put a new lion battery only a week ago thinking it was that..

I will let you know my findings

Cheers

Couple of years ago I changed the battery on mine. On re connection I noticed a spark on the positive ( NB to all - disconnect BLACK FIRST ,THEN RED. Connect RED FIRST ,THEN BLACK at re connection). I was worried about a leak ,but found it was due to various systems powering up as the initial current soon dropped to what I'd consider normal .
