Info on Cruise Control retrofit for Octavia II

Featured Replies

Just for info - after a lot of searching I had this fitted by an outfit called HazzyDayz, conveniently located just off the M1 near St Albans.

It was a hassle-free, internet booked (with phone advice), while-u-wait (1/2 hour) job costing £180 inc part and fitting.  Carries a 2-year warranty, just as well as over-enthusiastic servicing as some time pre my ownership meant too much grease had been used in the steering column somewhere and the removal / fitting caused a blob to fall onto the new unit which duly malfunctioned a few hours later!  They fitted a new unit pronto - and I believed their rather amazed faces that there had been a problem!!

The company do all sorts of complicated things with electronics and computers, specialising in the Vw / Audi etc family.

Recommended - and I now have a cruise control again which is delightful!

Fantastic price and close to my home, they are away until 5th January but i will contact ASAP to arrange fitting.

Thanks for the info Frankieboy, all the best for the new year.

Had cruise fitted yesterday by HazzyDayz, all I can say is if you need this and can get to Markyate in Beds, do it, you will not regret it. I arrived at 09-30 the car went in at 09-40 and I was driving away at 10-05. Professional, fast and a wealth of knowledge, and all for £180 inc vat. Just done 160 miles to Portsmouth and back without a problem.

Thanks for the recommendation Frankieboy .

nice free advertising for Hazzydays

You can get the job done for a good bit less than what you paid and still get the same outcome

Thanks for the totally pointless comment Eddie-NL.

As for the Free advertising, I have no connection with the company I am in fact a school caretaker so free advertising was not intention, I was just passing on the information for fellow users of this site, I thought that was the reason we have sites like this.

With regard to finding it cheaper, perhaps you could help others by passing on the information as to the supplier who will do it cheaper, using genuine new parts and give a 2 year no quibble guarantee.

You have just turned what was an innocent post into an opportunity to make nasty comments, thanks!

your welcome, pointless to you maybe

dealer part is £60 and comes with 2 year warranty anyway

i've fitted over a 100+ and only ever had to change one stalk due to a fault

I got one off Eddie a few weeks back, fitted it with the help of a mate in an hour and he coded it with VCDS for me, £60 in total and its been faultless, used to death already!! so not a pointless comment fro Eddie at all, its companies counting on people not having any knowledge at all and if you had searched this forum there a guides a plenty on how to do it with pictures!! saved yourself £120 in the process with a bit of time and patience

cheers fella

did it by myself. all you need is spline key (something like thorx), screwdrivers, long borer or small dia screwdriver. If you are lucky and control unit under steering wheel is ready for CC. Left lever cost about 50€ and it is half hour job - half day if you do it first time. I forgot about coding :-D

Eddie is this the same part number for all mk2 octavias pre f/l and f/l. I'm going to mine soon as I stay in elgin and have to travel the A9 when we head to Fife to visit our family's . The joys of having 100 + speed cameras on one road lol.

it will fit Octavia 2 from 2004 to early 2010

Having the Fabia, which has CC, has made me inclined to retro-fit it to the Octy.

Anyone with experience of having it done by someone located in the central belt? (Scotland).

Cheers

Thanks guys, that's a great help.

Honestly fella if you are even moderately ok with mechanics then this is something you can do yourself (at least to swap the stalk over) then have someone code it for you afterwards...

Get yourself a decent genuine stalk though, speak to Eddie-NL, he usually has them floating around

Ok, it may involve a 'Brave' pill or two...

Honestly its not that hard, there are plenty of guides on how to do it posted on here and the internet...

Look at this, its basically the same as when I did my 2007 VRS, hardest part was removing the controller from the bottom, worked out I needed a longer screwdriver (flat blade and at least 7 inches)
