Boot not opening - which fuse is it pls?

Featured Replies

Fabia boot not opening via the handle on the tailgate.

Funny thing is, it opened just now (car was very very iced up)   got home, now it won't open.  Have to open using the lever by drivers seat.

what could it be?

Third brake light works ok.   Rear wiper works,  so does the heated rear window.  I tested all of them straight after finding out the boot didn't open.

I did change the mechanism (popper) earlier this year,  or maybe last summer for a brand new genuine vw/skoda part.

thinking it's the fuse now,  which fuse should I be looking for ?

interior lights work ok too (guessing it's not on this circuit?)

Mine does this sometimes, seems to be sticking, have you tried putting pressure on the boot itself whilst trying to open with the handle on the tailgate?

Thanks,  I'll give that a go tomorrow too.

If the fuse is faulty, interior lights shouldn't be working as well, they are on the same circuit. I don't think it's 31, it was fuse 4 in my case and my central locking was working.

thanks.  good to know the fuse is same circuit as central locking+interior lights(?)

this morning the boot seemed to be working again,  so i'll keep an eye on it.

at least I now know it's not a fuse,   and hopefully not dodgy wiring in the boot hinge area (cause everything else is working fine).

so it'll possibly be the handle,   or the lock mechanism (although that I replaced for new about a year ago)

The boot lock is 31 as tmb says- according to the fuse layout which is a sticky at the top of this forum. Fuse 4 is for the interior lights.

Maybe mine it's just different then or maybe on fuse 31 is the lock, since it's all central locking and on fuse 4 is the release switch from the tailgate (along with the interior and boot lights). I am not sure, I didn't check the wiring diagram.

Well the boot seems to be working fine,   but now the driver's door doesn't know it's open,    so the puddle light/interior light doesn't come on when it's opened.    (interior lights work with the other 3 doors fine).

So the doesn't know it's opened now...

Tested key in the door,   central locking works - as does the opening/closing window with key trick.   Electric windows/mirrors/heated mirrors still work off drivers door.

So what's causing the problem with the door now guys?      When this problem happens on mk4 Golfs it's because the door lock module has failed (microswitches failed),  meaning you need to buy a new door lock module.

Is the Skoda Fabia made in the same fashion?

Yeah I believe so. New microswitch, or new door lock mechanism.

crap.   bloody vw design.

any idea how much a genuine door module goes for?

On my Fabia my rear washer leaked on to Electric boot release corroding connectors causing intermittent operation

No. Read old posts saying about £70ish. Tis on my to do list for passenger door.

f me.   £155 for a module (I assume this price is the same at a local VW/Skoda dealer too?)

well before I go down this route,   is it for certain that the puddle light/interior light is deffo door lock module,

and if it is,  can the microswitches be cleaned out?

Sorry for the questions - I'm familiar with mk4 Golfs, but not so much with the fabia

You can get genuine lock units cheaper on ebay. Just search for the part number.

The microswitches are usually knackered. The plunger usually gets chewed up and damaged. This problem doesn't just affect Skodas but a lot of other cars across the VAG range. You can't buy the switch separately (which is ridiculous considering they know all about this fiasco) but you can fit a similar switch if you're handy with the tools, like I did...

Wow that microswitch fix is lovely.  well done !

i'm however not so patient or dextrous,    I guess I'll look for a cheaper used part or something off ebay?

are there any differences in the modules - ie do I need to be wary of different part numbers/changes over the years / spec variations / updates etc?

Be careful of buying a used one as the switch might also be dodgy.

3B2837016AA will be fine.
