Featured Replies

The bin men just came to empty our bins and one of the bin men has took the bin off the pavement and smashed the light on my mums car, then quickly put the bin back and done one. My neighbour saw it happen but before he had chance to get to the door they have done one. My mums currently on the phone to them now but is been passed around. Anyone got any advice?

Urgh. What a pita.

Im sure once you get onto somebody a little higher up, give your neighbours details as a witness etc they'll soon sort it.

Good luck

Bad times :(.

Lucky it just got the light though and not the bodywork.

You could be really cheeky and ask for a courtesy car?

Told my mum to ask for one. Awaiting to hear back from the council folk but no reply yet.

No doubt they will tell her to get it repaired and send them the invoice

Or

Deny all knowledge

It'll go through their insurers. Shouldn't be a problem, apart from the operative who'll go home with a message ringing in his/her ears.  :D

Can't a piece of transparent duct tape make the car road legal again in 5 minutes? Would be the easiest solution IMO.

Bit of plastic sheeting and some red insulation tape should work in the short term.

If you're not getting anywhere ring your local councilor. They can send bigger rockets than you and in my experience normally get a very quick response.

Failing that ring the police on 101 to report it as criminal damage

Luckily our local councillor lives across the road :) i have recieved an email back saying its been forwarded to the claims team. Will see what happens next

Good luck. Personally things like this really wind me up as he knew he'd done it but decided 'to see if he could get away with it' when you help pay his wages. I hope he gets more of a rollacking than he would have if he owned up to it at the time.

Yeah this is whats really miffed us off. Accidents happen, if he had of just knocked on the door and told us then no problem but according to my neighbour who witnessed it. Hes done it, looked around to see if anyone clocked him, quickly put the bin back and removed the only bag in the bin by hand and then moved on.

If my neighbour hadnt of seen it happen then we would still be looking at it now wondering WTF

If he'd knocked on your door and explained, apologised and left his details so you could sort it out between you, his boss wouldnt of needed to know, so his boss wouldnt need to think any less of him

A few weeks ago at work we had a contractor pull down someones phone line whilst loading an excavator onto a low loader.  Rather than just admit what had happened they pulled the rest of the cable down and hid it in a hedge then scarpered.  The amount of grief it caused was ridiculous, especially as one the guys involved just kept digging himself in deeper and deeper and wouldn't admit what they had done.  Of course the home owner affected went absolutely mental and I think it cost the contractor a fair bit more than just fixing the phone line.

What's worse is the contractor is normally very good, but the action of two people nearly got them kicked off our approved supplier list.

Screen shot of the email i recieved back. States 10 days to turn it around further down.

Only issue is the car is an SRi XP. Xp standing for exterior pack.. Its rear lights differ to a normal zafira sri so its going to need to go to vauxhall

Looks like a positive result at least.

At a place I worked, we had our phone lines pulled down over the entrance to the yard. We looked through the CCTV and a waste container lorry drove off while still pulling the container up onto itself, so the arm was raised up to the top. Called up the company and the manager said it was not his man and his drivers wouldn't do such a stupid thing and for us to sod off. Changed his tune very quickly after we sent him the video though :)

Id stress it being unroadworthy. Just to hurry them up ;) aha.

Also. Does the light cluster unscrew from the inside then come out? So you can change the bulbs?

Wouldnt worry about it going to vauxhall. Council are footing the bill. What vauxhall says, goes i guess.

Theres two nuts on the inside that unscrew easy enough. Part ordered at vauxhall £94 [emoji46] plus £46 to fit it. Might fit it myself although tempted to let vauxhall do it....

Taxi fares in the absence of a car should be able to be claimed too, but don't be greedy and do tell only the truth. It is likely that the council "self insure" I know they do here in D&G but if a sub contractor probably not.

Hahaa. £46 to fit. Mad isnt it.

Up to you really i guess. Depends how much she cares for her car. I dont like the monkeys having mine if i can help it haha.

No wont be claiming taxi's or anything like that anyway. She can use my car if she needs to plus my dad is off work for the festive period so he can take her places in his van.

On a different note though. Vauxhall just rang, the light as arrived. Will go pick it up now and fit it myself :)

All sorted. Just wait for the £ to come through.
