Golf R - In for repair :(

Featured Replies

Took the Golf 7R in for a long awaited repair to the gearbox today.

Been having clunky gear changes in the lower gears. Long story short, they are replacing gear synchro's 1,2 & 3.

Taken 4 weeks for the parts to arrive, and 2-3 day now to fit them :(

Anyhow, I'm in a new Polo TSi DSG. I must say it's a lovely little car. Very smooth, quiet, nice handling & spec'd reasonably well :)

One funny point I noticed - The car seems to pick up speed fairly quickly under light acceleration, however press the pedal a bit harder & it just makes a louder noise, but doesn't actually go any faster :D

Not sure what's under the bonnet, 1.2 or 1.4?

Anyway, I jest, it's a lovely car but can't wait to get mine back :)

Sorry to hear about the golf!

Whats the reg of the polo mate? Will reg check it n see ;)

That doesn't bode too well for the future

Another VAG common fault rearing its head possibly??

How many miles on the clock and at what mileage did it appear?

Progressive or just happened.

At least yours is covered by the warranty. My rear brakes have sounded odd, and got steadily worse to the point I can see hairline cracking in the rotors. Worryingly, I haven't been applying to join the club of the great late brakers to have caused it.

Been there from day 1 :(

Took it to the dealers at 200 miles and told it was 'normal'. I perservered until 2000 miles and took it back again, this time they agreed and diagnosed the lower gear synchro's :)

I hope it's because you've been thrashing the knackers off it.

Moi? ;)

I'm all about mpg....................

..............still trying to crack 30mpg :)

Should still be covered though?

I was just hoping that if you'd broken it already it was for a good cause.

Sounds more like a build issue though.

I should hope so. They can have it back if I have to pay.

4 days and no news :(

So much for 'if it takes any longer than 2 days we will keep you informed!'

Obviously not going to hear back today. Hoping for the weekend now :)

Guess it's not the best of timing.

Latest news -

Not all parts required for the job are available. So more ordered from Germany. 7-10 day lead time + 2-3 days fitting.

My car is currently sat in the workshop with the gearbox in bits

So car off the road for another 2 weeks.

Not impressed as I had already waited over 3 weeks for the ALL the parts to arrive for this job.

Pretty bad for a fault I first reported in July.

Grrrrrrr...........

Forgot to add, I lost patience & rang them to get at update on the 2 day repair.

This was day 5 and no response. Wonder how long they would have waited to tell me it was going to take 3 weeks in total :-/

Pfft, would probably be quicker. If I'm honest I don't think all the parts were there from the start.

I was told 1 day before I took the car in that it would be at least 7-10 days for the parts to arrive ready for the job.

Miraculously, the next day I was emailed to see if I had forgotten to bring the car in for the job as all the parts were in ready to go.

Now 5 days later they don't have the parts, go figure!

Stuff them rebuilding that box.

They do not extend the Warranty on the Warranty Work, so even with a car on lease it is worth a New Replacement Box being

fitted.

Especially considering the Courtesy car cost.

& Stuff paying for a Golf R and driving a Polo for weeks.

Took the Polo back today and swapped it for a Sharan.

Beginning to think it might of been a mistake :(

Bit of a battle bus.

In the last 3 years I've had a new Skoda, Audi & VW.

The VW service department are by far the worst.

Skoda weren't great, but got the job done abeit with sour faces.

Although probably not a view liked on a Skoda forum Audi were head & shoulders above the other 2 in the group. Always went out of their way to get things done & if things weren't right, they would always put it right.

Interesting!

I guess this depends on which audi/skoda/vw dealer you use though?
