Mk3 front windows

Featured Replies

Had my octy since sept 2013, I have issues that when I open the front electric windows they don't seem to clear any moisture on the outside. The dealer has looked at this & cleared out any dust/muck that may have been there. Cleared moisture for week or two, now worse than ever.

Dealer has said windows on this model don't clear moisture & I need to use scraper to clear before driving.

Anyone else got this problem?

Yup... it clears a small corner so that I can see the mirrors, but not the rest of the windows.  It's one of a growing list of things that are starting to bug me about my Octavia - most trivial little things like this, but also things that I've never had issues with on any other car I've ever owned.

The seal around the window really should 'wipe' the window as it goes down - the fact that it doesn't actually has me slightly worried about moisture being able to get down into the door.

I'm not 100% sure but I think this may be "by design". The intention is to ensure that external water is not dumped inside the car if the window is opened completely.

I wouldn't worry about water in the doors. Its full of water anyway - like the MK2.

The seals are there to seal the window when closed, nothing more. They're not there to wipe the windows.

I have this too - first car I've ever experienced this with.

Noticeable a lot more now with colder weather.

Yes, I understand this... but if the seals were tight on the window then you'd hope that they would continue to provide a seal as the window is lowered.  Otherwise, you're lowering the window + all the moisture on it into the door.

The moisture gets in there anyway. That's why it is painted on the inside and why there are drain holes.

Exactly. When the car is sat with rain water running down the glass it will get in the door quite easily. This is also why the inside or the door is sealed from the outside with a waterproof foam or polythene panel. My seals happen to wipe the glass Ok but when I wash the car loads of water comes out of the bottom of the door drain holes.
