Tyres for 225 bhp 4x4 Octy ?

Featured Replies

I'm asking because I'd expect much the same handling and wear characteristics as the Audi TT Quattro (225). I did post on the TT forums but lets just say they're not as helpful as us Briskodians.

I got the car with Michelin Pilot Sport on the rear, needing replaced soon, and some brand new sh*te brand I never heard of on the front. Personally I'm a big fan of Goodyear Eagle GSD-3 tyres, I had them on the vRS, but not sure how they will perform on the TT. I know they're pretty poor in the snow (which we can get a lot of in the winter). any recommendations ?

if it was me i would stick to getting the Goodyear eagles, i really liked them :)

If you like Goodyear stick with them, I run Toyo Proxies on my 4x4 (250 horsies) & am happy with them as a value for money tyre.

I gather most "normal" tyres arent that good in the cold which Ive heard is 3 deg & below.

Have you thought of a set of "cheap" wheels with some winter tyres on for the cold, "TaviaRS" ran some on his Vrs in the snow & said they were pretty good.

I had Toyos Proxes T1-S last time around but wore the fronts out in 10,000 miles. I didn't actually wear the Goodyears out before the car was traded-in but the fronts were at 8,000 miles and looked to have at least another 5,000 left on them. Very similar tread pattern and I thought they were probably as good as the Goodyears for grip and handling, whilst about

I run GSD-3's on the 4x4 and they're great, they'd be my personal choice.

I have the new toyo T1-R's on the Ibiza and grip is very good in the dry and wet, they're a bit noiser than F1's though. It's also reported that they last a lot longer than the old T1-S's.

Goodyear Eagle F1's or Toyo TR-1's are apparently very good...in the snow I do not know. I have Eagle F1's on my Octavia 4X4 and they seem fine.

Hope that helps.

GSD-3's would get my vote.

Toyo T1-R's get mine :)

I'll mention something else then - Bridgestone Potenza S-03 PP... :D

Superb dry grip as should be expected, but very good in the wet too, and that's what surprised me. Some performance tyres just don't give a lot of confidence in the wet and cold, but you can use the S-03s deep into December before the winter tyres need to be rolled out.
