Head unit turning itself on

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm having an issue with my head unit, where it kept turning itself on by itself, I would get out the car lock it, come back to it and the radio was on, I booked it into the skoda dealer who replaced some aspect of the ignition barrel with no luck, they then replaced the head unit with a spare second hand one, but whilst the stereo did not turn itself on it seemed to be that the cd drive was always making a noise, the type of noise when you initially put a cd into the head unit. So I do not think the problem was the head unit. As time has gone by and 2 drained batteries later I can now replicate the issue to a certain degree. If I sit in the car, ignition off and open the door it fires up the radio\cd noise, shut the door, 30 seconds later do the same and so on. So my trail of thought is that I may have a possible earthing issue.

The skoda dealer has also plugged it into the computer and there are no error codes being displayed.

My only trail of though is that it could be a earth issue, does anybody know where the earth is that I can check? Hopefully it is in a relatively easy place as I am not a mechanic and nor do I want to pay a dealer copius amount of money to investigate further.

Any other advice\ideas greatly received?

Thanks in advance

Which radio/cd do you have?

I'm pretty sure the Columbus does exactly as you say. Whenever you open the drivers door, it spins up the hard drive (might do the CD drive as well) for some reason. - Or at least mine does!

It is the stream model if that makes any difference. I am not against just replacing the head unit for another one but am just worried that the underlying issue is still there
