2005 Octavia power window issues

Hi all,

I have an issue with my 2005 Octavia I was hoping to get some assistance with.

For as long as I can remember I’ve had a strange, intermittent issue with the electric windows on the car.

If I get in and start the ignition, the radio doesn’t show the time in the centre at the top, I know my electric windows won’t work. As soon as the clock is displayed the windows work again. This has been going on for years. The longest I have to wait is usually 5 minutes.

Of course, now we are having the ridiculously hot weather, the time is never displaying on the radio, and thus the power windows won’t work.

Neither window works from either switch, however they do still wind down if you hold the key in the unlock position and wind back up if you hold in the lock position (yeah- I only thought of this after 3 days sweltering…)

So it’s not a fuse issue (I’ve checked all the fuses).

I’ve swapped the BCM or comfort module I think it was called on these, for an identical part number one, still hasn’t resolved the issue.

I’ve checked the fuses in the cab and under the bonnet, can’t find any faults.

I pinned all of my hopes on the new BCM (well second hand) and sadly it hasn’t resolved my issues.

No faults showing on VCDS either.

Any ideas on where to look next?

The clock thing on the radio is 100% related, but I can’t work out where the link is. It’s obviously a communication issue as the windows do work with the key, something just isn’t communicating from the switch.
