Occasional knocking noise?

Featured Replies

Hey!

As im sure most of you know, I've got a 2013 fabia SE 1.2 htp. Its just turned 15,000 miles now.

I've noticed that now and again (not all the time) it makes a knocking noise when i go over a bump. I think its coming from the front end.

Anybody any idea what it could be? Any similar problems?

Id take it to the dealer but I've a feeling they'll just drive it over speed bumps at full speed to see if they can hear it., and that thought scares me haha.

Cheers.

Either a droplink, lower ball joint or track rod end IMO, get tyre fitters to check for movement or Jack the car up on both sides and put axle stands under, test play back and forth on the wheel and side to side then with a bar check drop links, you'll be able to pin point it by noise or by looking underneath

Cheers Jack.

Good job i asked. Tyres fitted on friday so I'll ask them to have a check for play.

I'll go from there i think. Cheers!

Only 15k miles so id be concerned if anything has worn out tbf.

You'd be surprised, I knackered a set of droplinks in 10k

Oem ones?

Urgh. Could do without things wearing out. Its pretty much new haha.

2013 car with 15000 miles is still in warranty, so why not visit your dealer?

Vauxhall ones so made of cheese.

I got a slight knock when going over uneven roads only mine is on the left rear area, the car was in getting it's 10k service 9 days ago and the sound wasn't there before it went in....lol the only thing they did was swap the front and rear wheels around......mmmmmm

It is.

I like to have an idea before hand mate.

In my experience the dealers just try to fob you off or say 'they all do that'

So i like to go in armed ;) haha.

Thats abit strange?

Otaylor, I'd be surprised if it's anything worn out just yet. I've never seen droplinks or suspension bushes worn out in such a small amount of time/mileage on any Skoda or VW. There's always a first time I know, but it's much more likely to be the gearbox mount come a bit loose. Now that I have seen a few times on VW's and Skoda's. If it is, check all the engine mounts too. Also check the exhaust hanger brackets for the silencers. They sometimes break or get damaged and the exhaust hangs a bit offset making contact with some underbody points going over bumps. So it's not there all the time. Good luck...it won't be hard to find.

Well that sounds quite severe haha.

It doesn't do it all the time, just now n again. Probably half the time.

I'll see if i can see anything. If not i should probably tell them when it goes in for a service shouldn't i. Don't want a gearbox or engine mount coming loose... Haha.

Cheers (:

Let's hope it's something simple. I had a full car recently ( 4 adults) and had this annoying knock at the rear o/s. After much speculation about suspension, exhaust etc I ended up going into the boot and eventually found the parcel shelf was rattling as a result of the rear seat back pressing on it when occupied. A quick jiggle and it was clear of the seat and noise stopped.

Sometimes these noises are difficult to explain but can be so simple to fix once it's known where it's coming from. Good luck.

Hope it is simple.

Thats one to look out for then. Tah!

Tbf, a lot of people probably wouldnt notice the noise. Its not exactly loud, i just know it wasnt there before and its only occasionally there now. But im a fussy bugger and i notice these things haha.

Did fitters notice anything?

Chased them up at dinner, said he'd ring the supplier and let me know when theyre coming. He never rang back so i rang again and he promised he'd ring them and ring me back this time.

The tyres wont be coming till monday. After I've been waiting around all day n that.

So I'll be after a discount on monday i think. Since I've been waiting a week as it is ;).

He was very apologetic and felt abit bad i think. So i reckon i can blag a discount ;).

Especially now its monday n I'll have to take time off work.

This is the trouble with dealers. I've heard so much BS recently. Unbelievable [emoji57]

But I love putting them right [emoji106]

Absolutely.

One told me last year that changing the steering weight causes the airbag to fail in an accident.

Its a good job i knew otherwise....
