I have fitted my columbus and i am going to have the VCDS done. all works except Some things that VCDS will sort out. The problem is i have the full glass roof so the ariel is in the tailgate glass when i turn the rear demister on i get interference on the radio stations do i need something to stop this  can anyone help

I will post more pics tomorrow to dark now

That's strange. I can't see how a change of HU can affect it.

Poor connection of aerial to the HU maybe?

Did you use a third party Fakra lead?

I just plugged the aerial lead in the same as original HU

The Fakra lead came with it. With it being magnetic i put it on top of the HU  could this be the problem? Satnav works parking sensors phone

It's possible being magnetic. Might be worth relocating it to see if that works.

Mine isn't magnetic and looks like this:

I think I would bind up the magnet part and tuck in out the way.

Some confusion going on here. The magnetic thing is the Fakra GPS antenna and not the aerial adapter. I would move the GPS and locate it somewhere else in the dash, away from the actual head unit. But it doesn't sound like this is the problem really, so I'd be looking at the aerial connections.

I will try that it only happens when i turn the demister on its like a crackle noise

Is the demister functioning correctly (and efficiently)? If there is a small break in any of the conductors it can cause interference with the radio.

The magnetic GPS aerial really needs to sit high up, perhaps in the void under the dashboard. The Octavia has a cross member that you can attach the GPS aerial to, the Rapid should be the same. On top of the HU is not ideal and you could in certain circumstances lose the the GPS signal all together with it down low.

On the columbus you check the radio antenna status, press and hold setup and keep holding until a menu pops up. Select FM from the list of options and scroll down, you should see a signal strength, and Ant Power needs to be showing as on.

The columbus has two radio aerial connections on the back next to each other, you could try moving the connection to the one next to it.

Is this the part you mean?

That would be best to bury it up above behind the HU. Hopefully it might stop interference.

Yes      There is a hole up inside the dash. A member has siliconed the gps ant there i tried this but when i close the two air vents in the middle of the dash they only close halfway as two rods push on the gps ant

The white plug has two female plug that fit to the two male sockets on the HU and it only fits one way

That's correct. One is for AM and the other is FM.
