Turbo removal and VNT clean

Featured Replies

I'm looking for advice on how difficult it would be to remove my turbo (c/w manifold) and strip down & clean the VNT mechanism on my PD170? The Workshop Manuals website gives a good description of the removal process and it doesn't seem too difficult. Does anyone know how to strip down and reassemble the VNT part of the turbo?

I did figure out a Mr muscle clean for the turbo/VNT but it's an @rse on the BMN engine with the turbo sitting on top of the manifold.

A manual clean is required.

Thanks.

Hi,

Don't strip anything, just buy some Turbo Cleaner. I recommend Bardahl great products for cleaning an decarbonizing.

Thanks for the tip, I haven't heard of that brand before. Am I right in thinking it is a fuel additive?

I recently used the innotec kit on my PD140 BKD and it solved my issues. I did the whole Egr & cooler delete too. If I ever had to do it again I would be able to get the cleaner in the turbo in less than 15 mins. So was well worth the effort. And it was recommended here by many and a family mechanic.
