2014 Superb FL: getting loud at high speed

Featured Replies

2014 (May) Superb FL (L&K). Noticed the past month or less that when the speed is above 105 km/h, the engine and road noise suddenly goes up considerably. My fellow passengers today (my wife and mother!) couldn't notice any difference but I can clearly tell it. I am aware that as the speed increases, so does the noise but this sounds disproportionate. The car is performing well and no issues other than the stated noise. Could this be due to bad diesel? Was looking at the rev meter today and at 120 km/k, it reaches 20 (presume 20x10...). Is it worth a visit to dealer?

Check your tyres first for saw tooth wear.

I agree with Danny, check your tyres first. Sounds very like mine for the first 30k kms until i changed the tyres. It was saw tooth wear. I have to say though the 18s are generally noiser anyway at higher speeds. How would you describe the noise? Is it high pitched or droning?

Thanks for the help guys. You may have been of huge assistance.

Full story:Got a set of 4 winter tyres for my new Superb just under 2 months ago and was very happy with them. They are Nokian WR A3 225/40 R18 92V XL so quite good ones.

Recently, just before Christmas driving on a back road not familiar to me, I 'entered' a huge pothole. following your advice, i checked the tyres today Today. What I saw  was a bulge on the side wall of the front tyre! Dangerous me thinks.
Got the tyres from Oponeo but they no longer have the Nokian. Eiretires has them but at 180 Euro each pkus 10 euro postage! I will orrder a replacement tyre but was wondering how dangerous this bulge is. The tyres are supposed to be reinforced

Bulge in the sidewall is bad news and can fail quickly and without any further notice.
