Possible lighting issue

Featured Replies

Just a quick query

As it's now dark when I arrive home, I have noticed that when I reverse onto my drive and I turn the steering wheel the front lights fade on one side. Eg I turn the wheel to the left the lights on the left fade and when I turn to the right the lights on the right fade. I think it's the DRL's but not sure why they do this. Only seem to do it when going backwards.

Was this with the Headlights on?

Best have someone drive the car for you while you watch and see what is happening,

Power Drain as you maneuver in reverse.

A bad earth or something like.

Or you  might have cornering Headlights or the likes.

It can not be the DRLs. or Cornering DRL's.

because it is Sidelights you have on with your headlights if it is dark, not DRL's.

The power steering is electric as far as I'm aware, when parking with engine at low revs and steering forces high because wheels only turning slowly or not turning at all then power steering is pulling at it most current from the battery hence the dimming of head lights, the mk1 fabia was much worst, its a feature not a fault.

That's what I was thinking, it's just that the op says the problem occurs at one side only depending on the direction of the turn. This makes me think differently but I'm no auto electrician so wouldn't know what this means. Sorry

Sounds like cornering fogs that you're spotting.

Get somebody to stand at the front of the car and see exactly what happens

No Fog lights on a vRS, so they can not be Cornering Fogs.

If they were cornering fogs would the light appear to brighten not fade on the directional side?

Maybe hes only noticing it when it fades out.

Thats all i can think of.

Needs a second person to turn the wheel whilst he has a look, or vice versa.

Or a shop window if you're really stuck for friends aha.

My lights fade when I turn the steering wheel at stationary. The reaso nis electrical power steering and alternator not able to provide enough juice at low engine revs and stationary. Put your car in "N" engage parking brake rev the engine and turn the steering wheel. If they still fade then there is sth wrong.

Thanks guys

I have I feeling it's due to the battery not giving out enough juice. But I will get someone to watch me reverse and see what happens.
