Tesla Model S

Featured Replies

I am about a month late, but I thought this might be on interest to someone here!

Last month we had a Tesla Model S P85 at work for evaluation, so I thought I'd write up a little of the feedback form I filled in with a colleague.

Overall we liked the Tesla a great deal. Firstly, the power was fantastic (I'll quantify that by saying I have only driven a 1.4 Fiesta and my VRS), but it was very quick. I think the book time is 0-62 in about 6 seconds. The power delivery was very smooth due to it having no gears, and it would pick up very quickly. It also had a creep function whereby if you had no feet on the pedals it would creep forwards - useful in traffic jams! We found it fairly difficult to hold a steady speed without the use of the cruise control because the regenerative braking was quite aggressive in its operation. However, this often meant you didn't need to use the brake pedal. It was very quiet too.

In terms of handling, we thought it was good for a big car, but it was a little 'wallowy' and not overly confidence inspiring. The steering was obviously electrically aided, but we felt it lacked feel and feedback. Once or twice when accelerating from roundabouts, if you used too much accelerator it would easily break traction with the ESC stepping in. This was quite aggressive, and my colleague said that you would go to catch a slide, but the ESC would step in but then as you have turned in, the effect is over done.

It was spacious, but the rear seats suffered from a lack of a foot well. The seats were comfortable and all the tactile aspects were very good. The centre dashboard is basically a huge Ipad type thing, which was generally quite easy to use and not too distracting once we turned the brightness down.

It was easy to charge, if a little frustrating because you had to disconnect the charger from the dashboard before removing it.

One of the questions we were asked was whether we would be proud to own it, and we decided we would definitely be proud to own one, but weren't sure it was worth the asking price.

But overall, it was a very good car which we liked. Definitely bodes well for the future I think.

Thanks, Matt

I wouldn't be surprised considering his experiences with a Leaf :)

This is probably old news, but in USA some of the airports use them as taxis, my daughter travelled in one somewhere out in the steel town areas last year. That is serious charging levels.
