The applicator pads with the handle are a god send when applying products by hand. Used one when I did my dads golf plus the other week and stole it from him! Wellllllll, he had two of them and you only use one hand at a time when polishing, unless you're a ninja!!

I picked up a plasterers bucket at Wickes to see what it was like; at 30L nominal it is probably a bit on the large size but you don't have to fill it    

Chris really knows his stuff about detailing and his threads are defo worth a read.

For me I use autogylm products for the reasons below:

Cheap

Easy to use

Most car shops stock them

Finish (for me) is very good

For me that's enough

The website is very good too and I have had a few questions answered when I have emailed them.
