Recording the light/lane/otherwise assist camera

Hi All,

Does anyone know what the resolution of the rear view mirror mounted camera is (primarily in the Octy MkIII but probably similar in all models)?

I'm wondering if it's possible (using some form of recording device and tinkering) to record the feed from this in lieu of using a dash cam?

If only the Columbus sat nav recorded positional data and images from the cam to an SD card . . . do you think this is software or hardware limited?

Not fully thought through the pros and cons, but could it be a neat solution to record journeys if the camera is good enough? Unless of course dash cams have additional features I've ignored?
