You cannot run windows live email or any POP emails in windows 8. By upgraded to windows 8.1 I was then able to run a POP email though outlook.com

its a brand new computer, I assume its up to date... I basically nee .NET framework 3.5 ..... and you cannot enable it. its not fit for urpose. drives me mad. got 2 computer mates and the programmers at elite working on it at the moment.... so frustrated, my old PC was fine on windows 7 :(

not fit for purpose.

Windows 8.1 has a very easy restore to factory settings (assiming it's not a home built pc with OEM WIN801)

- I would do this and then straight away try to  install the . Net framwork 3.5 in Windows features.

You can if you run a proper client ie. Outlook or Thunderbird ,  The Windows 8.1 Mail App  doesn't.

If .net framework 3.5 does not install from the control panel options (add/remove windows features), then it can be manually installed from the command prompt.

However you need a Windows 8.1 install media, either in ISO format or a physical disk.

Follow these steps

Double click on windows ISO to mount the image, or insert Windows DVD

(assuming drive letter allocated to mounted image is E:)

right click on windows start button and select "Command Prompt (administrator)"

enter the following

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /all /Source:e:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

After a while you'll get a prompt that the install was successful.

For some reason I've never got it installed from the windows add/remove features.

I tried the command promp thing after net research, and it failed.

HOWEVER I could not believe that windows 8 hadn't installed basic updates, SO I started there, and BAM fixed. downloadd it made sure it was activated in control panel... elite and windows mail now working! yay! and I downloaded the basic shell thing to return it more towards windows 7 , feels better......

just got to get elite to send me a code for my new computer now!

dedicated graphics has gone up from 1 gig to 4 gig :) + 8 gig of RAM :)
