Can anyone help me with some tips on removing the plastic shroud that surrounds the transmission tunnel, gear lever and handbrake lever in between the front seats?

 

I've noticed that there is some rubbish and old receipts and what look like train or bus tickets down underneath the handbrake etc from the previous keeper's ownership and I want to get in there and clean it all out. Oh yes, and I dropped a £2 coin down there too :-)

 

Any advice gratefully received ;-)

remove ash trays at front and back, and the cover under handbrake, screws under there.

 

from memory I think that is about it, don't pull up too hard though as the cigarette light wire will be attached, you can disconnect this if you need more room.

Yep, if they're all assembled the same, the lock/latch for the connector on the cigarette lighter is on the drivers side of the connector, very low down near where the wires go into it, central (You're working blind). May be easiest to reach from rear door/footwell, once all the screws are out and you can lift up the rear end.

There's a little light in the ashtray area that needs to be carefully rotated/wriggled from the plastickery, but can stay connected to its wiring.

 

Once those are undone, and the bit beneath the handbrake lever prized out (carefully if you care about appearances), you can tilt the rear end upwards enough to unclip the bit at the front that blends the horizontal bit into the main dash area. Then you're about done, just pass the gearstick surround stuff through on the angle.
