Bluetooth Connection Interferes with DSG Paddle Operation

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've got a 61 Plate Octavia vRS with DSG and factory fitted Bluetooth. I recently noticed that the DSG paddles would not always respond when attempting to use them. Down shifting for the most part was ok, but up shift rarely worked.

As the car was due a service last week I asked my local dealer to look at it. They reported back that 2 technicians had been out and the paddle operation was fine. I went for a drive and the paddles again only worked intermittently. They agreed to have another look, and another technician took the car out and the paddles were working. So I agreed for them to have it for a couple of days at the end of the month.

I started to think about why the paddles would work when I wasn't in the car and realised that when I'm in the car, my iPhone is also with me and always connected. This morning I turned off the Bluetooth on my iPhone and the paddles worked completely fine.

I've tried the connection with an iPhone 5 and 6 and the results are the same.

Any ideas how an active Bluetooth connection to the car could stop the DSG paddles from working? I'm assuming the paddles are hardwired and not using a wireless communication to the gearbox.

I've never seen anything like this before.

Cheers...
