Front windows are not working

Featured Replies

2007 Skoda Fabia 1.2 12v

I went out earlier and both windows didn't work , so when I got home I put in another fuse in and the passenger window worked ( using the passengers door switch) but not the drivers, so I went to get more fuses (25amp) when I got there , I pressed the passenger door switch the window went down but stopped and I couldn't move it up or down.

I put new fuses in , the passenger windows closed but I had to keep pressing the button up and it juddered up slowly , the drivers window is still not working.

What's the problem ?

Thanks

By holding down the lock button on the key fob does it automatically close the windows? If it does then you can check to see if the motors are working. I've just had to replace the switch since once down they wouldn't go up.

Theres a comfort module which controls this i think

Sounds like its playing up

The windows don't open if when the door is open with the key.

The windows don't open if when the door is open with the key.

If you put the key in the lock and twist it n hold it there the windows should come down though.

Another way to test if you havent got a remote key fob.

I've done the key in the lock and twisted, doors open but windows don't . I'll try the key fob in the morning.

Thanks

On my car I do not have the fob remote windows up/down enabled. If I use the key in the door method, the windows still do not move. So checking these methods may not actually pin point the fault.

I had window issues a couple of months ago. Drivers side would not work. Passenger side would sometimes work intermittently but only from using the passenger switch. Funnily enough I noted a pattern where it would only happen 2-3 days after I had jet washed the car (prior to the issues I did not have access to a jet wash). They now work fine, its been 2 months since I used the jet wash!

What with winter have you visited a jet wash recently? I assumed water may have been getting in somewhere and then drying out. You may find they go back to working fine in a week or so.

It might be deactivated via vcds then.

Id take it to a garage to get sorted tbh. I've got a feeling your comfort module is fooked.

People have come back to their cars on a rainy day to find the windows have opened themselves in similar cases I've read about.

So maybe best to get it sorted sooner rather than later (:

I had that once was well peed off as seat was wet lucky no one had decided to take anything.

Just got back from dealer , apparently it's both window motors, £430 parts and labour.

Should both motors go at same time ?

I dont know, but both going at the same time seems abit too much of a coincidence, surely?

I'm getting a loan car and normally they want £10 for insurance but they have no chance !!

That's what I thought when I was driving home still in shock , 2 motors going at the same time !

I've had a quote for £307 using Aftermarket Parts. Does this sound OK and where do the parts come from ?

The only way I can imagine both motors failing at the same time is via mechanical 'over-stressing', for example if there was lots of hard frost on the car freezing the glass in place. Even then, I'd've thought there would be a fuse blow or other safety cut-out before mechanical damage would happen. This latter may be optimism rather than reality though. Was it frosty when this happened?

I'd say they can't be bothered to do a good diagnosis.

Is the car kept under cover, or out in the weather? I've heard a few rumours that interior dampness can cause trouble with these systems. Ours (mk1 though) seems to have recovered from a spell of intermittent working following a good session with a dehumidifier. Gotta be worth a try?

I'd be really careful about accepting their diagnosis without having a 3rd party check it out. The window problems are so very common on the Fabias, especially the early ones and as far as I know it is nearly always down to the wiring loom chaffing in the door area. It seems too much of a coincidence to me that both motors have failed at the same time and it's too easy for a garage to quote for two motors and then just  fix the wiring.

Of course you know who you are dealing with and if they can be trusted.

The electric windows on these cars are rubbish.  I've seen a few Fabias and Roomsters with electric window problems, they never show any codes and the LIN that they're on is IMO inferior to the system used on the MK 1 Fabia.

The motors aren't just motors, they're control units with software inside which screws up, I find that it's usually the drivers door unit that messes up but with no codes showing and the possibility of that unit taking the other one with it the dealer is going for all out approach to get it fixed.

I noticed it later in the afternoon , but in the morning when I went to the paper shop a gust of wind blew my door wide open , the window worked when I got to work cause we have a barrier and I opened my window to use my pass.

The wiring loom was replaced last September with a brand new one from SkodaParts.

Just got the car back from the auto electrician, he said its the drivers window module that's gone. This will cost £130. He was on it for 3 hours and about to give up when he phoned a VW parts company who said the module going is a common fault on VW cars.

Booked in for 2 weeks time.

Bet he wishes he'd checked that to start with

The problem is that you can't really check them as they don't show any codes and the output tests that you can do are inadequate.

I hope its not too late… Just had same situation also with only being able to open close passenger side (after disconnecting and reconnecting door connector, passenger side) then only working for a few mins. (think this is same as when you take out key and can close windows prior to opening doors, for a few mins).

I unplugged drivers side door wiring connector, looked inside the bellows and found a snapped wire… block terminal to reconnect and BINGO… working windows again!  Your fuse removal probably activated the same thing as my unplug. hence window working for very short time. if this YOUR problem, it will cost about 50p for a small connector.

All sorted (MRGF my auto electrician checked everything, but thanks for the advice hopefully it could help someone else)

It was the window regulator motor in the drivers door Part no. 6Y1959801 SK 6

The part was £161 and with labour including looking for the fault 2 weeks ago was £140 ( 5 hours).

So a lot of money but cheaper then the £430 the dealer wanted to replace the window motors in both doors.
