MkI, mkII or mkIII?

I and II its bolted in from back, you need to take the trim off the tailgate.

Mk 11

It appears to have a skoda after market rear spolier - the dealer is saying the spolier has to be replaced and is now saying poss £4-500 juat to replace the high level brake light!!

I've moved this to the more appropriate octavia MK2 forum.

Ouch!

Do you have a picture of the tailgate?

Take the spoiler off and put it in the bin. This should then reveal the original brake light which is mounted directly to the boot lid.

Seriously though is the spoiler a genuine Skoda accessory (I'm guessing so if they have quoted for a replacement), if so then they need to source a replacement brake light. To expect you to replace the whole lot is daft.

I suspect Skoda source the spoiler from a third party supplier, so the only part number on the system will be for the full thing - hence the silly price. Any parts department worth their salt would have looked into this a little more for you and possibly offered to contact Skoda UK directly.

A bit of homework might yield some benefits. If you can find the supplier then I'm betting they'll sell you a new brake light.

I did this on a non-Ford spoiler fitted to my Puma several years ago. The LED brake light was of poor quality and let moisture in, it soon failed.

Sourcing the brake light is not a problem - either from skoda or elsewhere - I have one available - but to get the old one out you have to free the spoiler from the roof of the car and then glue it back down again. Both spoiler and light have standard skoda part numbers. I think the dealer believes that in freeing up the spoiler it is likely to break and thus need replacing.

Remind the dealer that the boot spoiler on the hatchback vRS is attached the exact same way.

I've never heard of the hatchback spoilers breaking.

Some are simply bolted on, others have been known to also use a 3M type tape / adhesive, the seal of which is easily broken if done with care.
