I know this has been done to death but I cant bloody find it now for some reason.

What size hex is it that I need to remove the calipers and carriers to get the disc off a 2001 vRS? Seem to remember it being 7mm?

Also do the caliper carriers need to come off? Saw a video earlier where the chap removed the disc with the carrier in place, albeit on a MkIV Golf.

Lastly, can the fronts be done without the rewind tool, without damaging the piston?

7mm yes. Can't remember if the carriers need to come off. No rewind tool for fronts required just some monkey grips will be sufficient.

Thanks pal. Just needed to double check and couldn't find it in the swathes of treads about which discs and pads to use.

Iirc the carrier bolts are 19mm or 21mm.
