Rear Wiper Motor £75! Really?

Featured Replies

The rear wiper motor on my Octavia 2 VRS has packed up, unfortunately not repairable as its rather rusted inside, evidently the washer fluid has been leaking inside the motor for a while!

To my surprise the cheapest I can find a genuine replacement for is £74.99.

Is it just me or is this a bit pricey?

Does anyone know anywhere i can get a genuine replacement for any cheaper?

Thanks in advance.

Blimey that really did suprise me!

Don't think I could live without it, might re-mortgage to get a new one and then see if I can improve it to stop it leaking internally again.

Thanks

Dan

Pm crazyash88. He has a brand new one that he's looking to get rid of for a wee bit cheaper than that.

Or find a decent used one for £25 - £30 and give it the once over before fitting? :)

Most ebay breakers now give a 3 month warranty so are fairly safe.

Think I might well try and find a used one, or even have a more in depth look at repairing my one.

Thanks all

To be quite honest, I wouldn't bother. I did just that, and ended up replacing the used one within 6 months, then replacing that one with a new unit very soon after. It's just not worth the hassle of dismantling the boot trim every time.

I must admit, there a poor design and I don't think they are particularly repairable... Might just go for a new one, at least it comes with some warranty.

Has anyone tried to mount a rear washer nozzle in another position and relocate the feeder pipe so that it doesn't pass through the wiper motor/gearbox? I realise that it will then not track with the wiper, but a decent fan spray nozzle should give decent coverage. I find it hard to believe that one of the members of this forum hasn't at least given the idea seriously consideration.

So who's up for drilling a hole in their hatchback? Not me for starters......

As my wiper motor needed a replacement after less than 2 years (under warranty) I am certainly considering it rather than having to fork out £75 for another motor sometime in the next few years. I do like to be able to see all around me so a clean rear window is important to me and the rear wiper/washer gest plenty of use.

You wouldn't want to before any corrosion warranty had expired.

Or simply disconnect it as I have on my estate due to it leaking behind the dash.

Not an option for me. I like to have all round vision and so my rear wiper and washer are frequently used.

A good point. However, if I can avoid the cost of a replacement wiper motor by relocating the washer jet and pipework I think I'll take the chance.

That's doesn't sound bad £75 that's about what you would pay anywhere... have you tried few motor factors I know we can get alot through Valeo and febi...

Mine packed up and leaked in to the boot as well, I ended up shelling out £75 for a new one.

Seems to be a common problem.

Im thinking more along the lines of buying a new one and perhaps modifying it to make it a bit more reliable, Im sure there must be a way of sealing the water side of things a bit better than they come from the factory.

Some aerospace grade sealant should do the trick, just have to wangle some out of the stores :notme:
