Looking for a softer suspension

Featured Replies

I'm not ok with my current suspension setup  .. it's way too hard and it might be the standard one (not sure). Is it correct that mk1 has been equipped with three different suspension types .. standard/heavy duty and luxury ? I'm looking forward to replace my shock absobers and the coil springs this week .. so if you can recommend me any 'soft' ones .. please do it.

What car have you got?

1.4mpi, hatchback, 2000

can you take a pic of the shocks and we can tell if its a standard setup or not,the standard springs are usually waaayyy too soft so im guessing its not standard

Mines as soft as anything, and its a 1.4 mpi so i think something is amiss with yours

Shock absorbers been replaced with wood?

1.4mpi should drive like a boat tbh.

:o

What size tyres are fitted? If larger than standard wheels are fitted, with lower profile tyres, they may be making the suspension feel harder.

Are the tyres over-inflated?

The standard tyre sizes and pressures should be printed on a label inside the fuel filler flap.

If you can see what coloured dots (read them from left to right) are on the front and rear springs we can tell if the springs are standard for that car.

Standard front struts are 6Q0413031BH

Standard rear dampers are 6Q0513025R

I'm keeping my wheels inflated at 2bars .. front and rear and I have the standard size .. 185.60.14. I saw the dots once .. I hope I will get my car washed today to check the other details. It's not a boat, it has lots and lots of grip and a pretty good steering response. It's like being glued to the road at high speeds even in tight corners. On motorways it is a little piece of driving heaven, but on not-so-good roads, it's a nightmare. Compaired with mine, a Daewoo Matiz is way more confortable and that s*@#s .. big time. Should I check the anti roll bar or any other suspension items?
