Remap - opinions / cost

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

looked into a remap when I first bought my car in March last year. For a variety of reasons, I couldn't follow up on getting it done.

However, hopefully will in the not to distant future, so doing some research again.

I have a Dec 2011 Octavia VRS diesel CR.

I've had a quote from a company near Edinburgh to carry out a stage one remap. I've had my servicing done there and they're really decent guys.

They said it's an ECU out job, and they reckon a full day's work, with gains of around 40 - 45 bhp. They quoted £540 inc vat.

Just looking for folks opinions on those figures / cost? Unfortunately it was a terrible line, so didn't get the torque figures (!).

Cheers.

I may be wrong, but that seems pricey. My remap (which was excellent and caused no problems whatsoever) cost me £175.

I know that there have been issues with cracking the ECU of the CR engine, but I believe it can now be mapped via the OBD port. I may be proved wrong.

For the money you are talking, you could probably get a Shark remap with one of their 'DIY' handsets so you could map and remove it yourself.

What is the name of the place as i can only think of 1 place in Edinburgh with does remaps and they are more dodgy than Mexican drug cartels!

Maybe that includes a return flight to London and lunch at the Ivy?

Cheers Mike, I thought the chip needed to be removed in that model of the vrs?

Thoroughly agree with Mike.  Power is very smoothly delivered but building strongly.  I wanted to improve acceleration for over taking, which it does in spades.

Turns out with more normal driving, I can get better fuel consumption too.  Bonus bonus bonus.

Shark have a few dealers who fit the identical maps, or you can get the STS device and apply or remove the map at will, among other tricks.

I think brotek at West Linton is the nearest dealer, but from memory I don't think they had the software to communicate with the the ecu
