Abandoned And Crashed Vehicles In The Snow

Featured Replies

Snowed here an hour or so ago. Now its frozen. So white over and sheet ice.

Obviously no tyres will grip on that, but the vector 4 seasons have noticeably more braking force than the turanza's.

Just hoping for some proper snow when i wake up in the morning, so i can test em properly

  • This would probably be a good time to post that pic of the BMW with snow chains on the front wheels...

  • Because if you died or killed someone as a result they would be criminally liable. It'll also void your insurance if they caught you (usually during a claim/repair) It goes against all of the tyre man

  • Well I can add that my Honda with well worn tyres (was going to put new ones on but SWMBO made a big issue of it so I didn't) was foggin useless in the snow and I had to leaved it parked up on double

If the fitter has had proper training, they'd know it's against every tyre company advice, and the UK fitting retailers.  If the fitter went against this, then you had an accident, yes they could be held liable.

Nope, still can't be held liable. It's the driver that would be liable, no one else.

10cm of fresh snow and still snowing.

Just been driving around finding the steepest side roads i can, with the worst effected snow. Stopped. Set off. No problem.

Did get a funny look though from a bloke who was clearly thinking 'why have you done that, youll never get going' haha.

Excited about the next few days and some real cold for many.

TV & Media Reports will no doubt feature places that look totally normal for winter time.

Tomorrow morning rush hour might have some wishing they took public transport, or not as the case may be.

Hmm.

Im up and out the house for 7:30 tomorrow morning. Up and across the tops of the hills for a 1 hour drive to college.

Might be fun.

Just gets frustrating. Its every man for himself and theres always someone selfish that blocks the road in their car that cant handle the weather, or unsuitable tyres.

Nobody's going anywhere then, no matter how good the car you're driving is :(.

Just spent Yesterday afternoon and up to this morning in and around Hallam FC and Crooks, Sheffield

Really snowy and back roads very icy

Had no problem whatsover getting around in my wifes Citroen DS3 with 16" Steels & Winter tyres

The biggest problem was coping with skidding cars

BTW...Any one who lives in Sheffield will know this already

Possibly the worst roads in the country for Pothholes and botched road surfaces..

Utterly appalling!!

Really cant understand how they allowed it to get as bad as that!!!

I've said that about sheffield quite a few times on here mate. Its absolutely diabolical isnt it.

SWMBO goes to uni there. So im over most weekends.

Even if you do 20mph, they still vibrate your car to bits

My daughter lives in Crooks (S10)

Not just worn or "normal tyres" - my civic has a new set of Michelean low rolling resistance  "eco" tyres (same as standard fitting) and was next to useless on the A9 last week.

Work wont fit winter boots to our lease cars and lease co insist of fitting the same brand as when the car was new.

Time to ask the Works Administrator (Accountant) about the Risk Assessment that the Company Commissioned or Carried out,

and what Corporate Responsibilities as the Employers they are taking considering the Region the Company Vehicles are

being used in.

Police Scotland now have many Mitsubishi SUV type vehicles on totally inappropriate tyres,

and they put drivers on offroad courses which just shows them how poorly the Works Vehicles perform.

It is time that Bean Counters and Senior Management got an idea about Procurement & Equipment and Vehicles fit for Purpose.

Sounds about right.

My dad used to have company cars. They wouldnt allow winter tyres but expected him to get about.

Not only that, when the snow was on its way and he had 2.5mm tread he'd try to get them changed so he stands half a chance. Nope, cant change them until its below 2mm.

Cost saving maybe, over a fleet of many thousand cars, but abit silly to say the least

Sorry to multi post.

However I've just thought. Grit stops working at -6/-8 (googled to confirm) so if it does get to -15, itll be really dangerous.

Go steady guys!

Oddly temps around much of Scotland are no place as low yet as they were much earlier last night.

The Weather Front has surely not moved down yet.

The Cold Lifted pretty quick this morning in many areas after pretty low temps during the night.

A work colleague told me that he had just fitted two part worn winter tyres on the front of his car.

I asked him what was on the back he said 2 summer tyres. I told him that that was not a good idea

But he said it was as its a front wheel drive car and he got them cheap 50 for both with alloy wheels.

I tried to point out that if he has to brake hard at speed the car will be all over the place but there was no talking to him.

It worries me a wee bit as he drives his wife 5 year old boy and 1 year old daughter around in this car.

There is no talking to some people.

At least he's halfway there. However, if he bought them part worn because theyre past the winter wear markers, he might just assume they're pointless and might not try to do it properly.
