Getting a wheel off easily.

Featured Replies

Recently (putting on the winters, changing two flats) I've found that getting the wheel off the car is a real pain. Last night I had to get some ply to protect the wheel, put it behind the wheel and then tap it with a mallet.

It was really well stuck on (and yes all the nuts were taken out :)  )

I am sure that this process is getting harder over the last few months, is there anything I can do to reduce the chance of the wheel becoming so 'bonded' to the car?

Thanks

Matt

Put a bit of copper slip on the inner edge of the wheel or on the hub face before putting it back on.

Loosen the wheel nuts, drive forward about 6 feet. That usually works.

Both above work. Or change wheels so regularly like me they never have chance to corrode on. :D

Thanks :)

The winters only went on in late Oct and last night I was wondering if it was trip to the garage time. Of course, having the car up on a 'widow maker' was making it a little more fun

Bit of copper slip as mentioned above will sort it. Don't over apply it and just use in the areas highlighted on that pic. You can get a tub from Halfords.

Copper slip on the hubs and clean all the corrosion of the inner face of the wheels and hubs first.

So some copper slip on the hub then, JICYMI
