Near side mirror body fitting

Featured Replies

Can anyone advise how I replace and fit a new mirror body. Does the door card need to come off. I ask as I need to fit a new body. Cover and mirror glass are fine. The part I have has a very long electrical connection so fear the cable has to be fed through the door or something.

Any advice most welcome. Going to attempt this weekend if possible.

The door trim does have to come off.

I have attached a photo of a driver's door as a guide as to what's underneath.

(From memory) there are five screws that come out, two (Torx t-25?) are revealed when the door window switch panel is lifted straight up.

These locate where I have arrowed in the centre of the door. Note that the switch panel is stiff and will release suddenly.

The window switch loom is quite short, beware of pulling it up too high when it comes free as this will stress the switch/wires.

There are two smaller screws at the bottom of the door (shown), and a place for one at the top, which I think is accessed after removing the

tweeter grill. (Shown with '?')

The door card clips are sometimes very stiff indeed and get left behind on the door (like this one circled).

Worth searching on door card removal on the forum, I'm sure there have been some guides.

I once carried out this operation on a Mondeo and I have never sworn so much in my life.  It was the most fiddly job I have ever done on a car bar none.  I sincerely hope the Superb is easier.

Good luck.

I've just come across the bag that I bought some spare door card clips in .

The part number (this is for any of the four doors) is 6Q0 868 243. Can't remember how many there are around the edge of each door (6, 7, 8??), worth having a few in advance, in case they get mangled.

When the door card is pushed home, the r/h part of the clip pushes into the l/h (bigger) part of the clip, splaying the pointy bit (to the left of the grey rubber seal) to anchor it in the sheet metalwork. When you attempt the reverse to take the door card off (some years later), they just jam. So they don't come out easily at all.

Ingenious!  But a PITA.
