DIY "CatVision" and iPod Install

Featured Replies

OK, first of all, please forgive the photos... I've never been much good at nighttime photography!

Secondly, you'll want to know what you're looking at.

For the CatVision:

2x 12v 3mm high brightness red LED's

2x Black 3mm LED Holders

Some Wire

Some Heatshrink

A bit of Solder

For the iPod Install:

SendStation PocketDock Line Out

SendStation 3.5mm Stereo to Phono Lead

Brodit ProClip Universal Console Mount (p/n: 630525) - I say "Universal", but this is the correct mount listed for the Fabia.

Brodit 4g 20gb iPod Passive Tilt/Swivel Holder (p/n: 848617)

El Cheapo Phono to Pioneer P-Series Aux Input Socket Lead Thingy...

Apple iPod 4g 20gb

12v to Firewire Power Cable

I'm going to fit 1x 12v High Brightness 5mm LED (in Chrome Holders) in each footwell when I can find some time to do it. Photos of that to follow.

Nice one Josh - like the Catvision a lot

How's the sound quality with the pod - can you tell the difference, compared to say playing a CD on the HU?

Re: the sound quality...

I've had some issues with interferance coming through the power system, which goes away when you remove the 12v supply. It sounds like an ground loop of sorts, but it has lots of other fishy noise with it. I installed 1x clip on ferrite ring around the power and audio wire and it's subdued the noise quite a lot. I'm going to try putting another one around just the power lead to see what difference that makes.

Apart from that (which can be totally eradicated by removing the 12v power), the sound quality is pretty good. I've upped the bass on the H/U by +2 (from 0) and knocked the trebble down by -1 (from 0) and upped the Sub 125khz +1 (from 0). This sounds just about right. I have also adjusted the input gain on the HU to +4 to try to bring the volume up to the level of the CD and Tuner.

All in all, I'm happy... I'll be even happier once I've sorted the noise out for good.

I've now got 18.5gb of Jungle, Hip Hop, Breakbeat, and Various other music ranging from Prince to Louis Armstrong and Madonna to Katie Meluah at the touch of a "wheel".

Josh - I think your roof light fitting shot has answered me a possible question.... I have a feeling the "door open" mode and "on 24/7" mode are the opposite way around. Might explain why my nav lights come on 24/7 when in door open position, but don't work at any other time AT ALL. Another call to the scrappy then.

Looks nice though - can never get enough LEDs

Looks tip top m8

May I ask... how come two heated rear window switches??

Looks good Josh, nice work.

May I ask... how come two heated rear window switches??

Think the second one is possibly for his IC spray system? :rubchin:
