Fabia VRS - What should I look for?

Featured Replies

They can not extend a Warranty by 2 years on a Car still under the Original Manufacturers Warranty that still has

2 years and 8 Months to run. (you can in some cases but then that is a different Warranty all together, and highly unlikely at a Skoda Dealership selling a nearly new used car or Ex DEmonstrator, or car owned by Skoda UK.)

You are not going to know what miles the Car has covered by the time it gets to 3 years old!

The 5 Year warranty is bought (2 Year Extension @ the time the car is first Registered.)

But a 'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty' can be purchased as the Original 3 year one expires; or after it has.

  • Nearly fell off my chair with this statement..... so much hypocrisy it hurts!   So does this answer the age old question "does everyone's favourite poster vxh26 actually own a MK2 VRS?"

  • As a point of ref. I just purchased my ex demo 14 plate with 2.5k on the clock for £12k.

  • Agreed.   Don't pay anything like that for it. Like Keith said, a fully loaded one with Nav etc would struggle to fetch that even with 4k miles.   You have to remember that the MK3 Fabia is out no

?

What would it need to be a 'Justified Reputation' for such a high percentage of the Engines built between 2009-2012 requiring Replacenment

at over £3,500 a pop, and failures of Clutch Packs and Mechatronic Control Units.

Or being told they will need to pay for Oil Consumption Tests, to have Breather Mods & ECU Updates done,

& even that they are having a Good Will Contribution but need to pay 20% of the £6,000 Cost

of the Engine Replacement.

Engines that were replaced failing & Gearboxes replaced more than once.

All just in 1,800 UK Skodas, & then Polo, Ibiza & A1,

same in other World Regions.

Lots of interesting experieces, but  30 pages,

maybe go to Page 3 post #61 or so for a tale of Dealer & Customer Services in the UK.

Page 30 post #880 is interesting IMO.

So either way, factor in the £500 future cost to extend the warranty.

Despite the nonsense you will read here, the later Mk.II Skoda Fabia vRS is a lovely car. The engine is superb and the DSG is even better! Sadly, it is kinda noisy (wind & road) and does crash about over the God-awful roads from which we all suffer (the very low profile tyres don't help much)

Go for it - Good Luck :)

Wow that appears quite a change of heart! I thought you felt the vRS was rubbish, which is why you didn't buy one?

That's an unexpected can of worms I've opened!

Had a look at CAP and Glass's and values for this car are £11800 on CAP and £13000 on Glass's so I'll be using those in my discussion with the dealership - they already told me they'd be using those to value my trade in so they can't really argue if I'm using them to value the car I'm buying.

Have you made any progress in your negotiations?

<snip>

I've read through the forum quite a bit and it seems there are a number of issues with the 1.4 TSI engine in the Vrs. I'm looking to purchase one and was wondering what I need to look out for, what questions I should be asking the dealer and so on.

<snip>

Have you made any progress in your negotiations?

GiddupSausage, it is possible that someone from your dealership visits this forum . . . you might be wise not to post anything here until you have completed any negotiations. Don't succumb to the temptation to provide a running commentary.

How would that hamper negotiations?

If that were to happen (Very unlikely) they will see that the prospected buyer knows that the price is too high and will more than likely;

- Try and do a better deal if they are wanting to shift the car (Which they will)

- Or clam up and cease to do a deal, OP then walks away and doesn't get overcharged. Which again, is very unlikely...they are car salespeople are they not?

Crap again! Simples

I've had a look at the Skoda used website and the one I'm looking at is the 4th most expensive one in the country or something!

Think I'll be aiming for a deal or walking based on that.

So have you made any progress or have you walked away?

I note the car you were interested in, is still on the Skoda used website at £15500 (crazy money!)

Hi all. Sorry for leaving the thread hanging as it were!

I didn't even drive the car in the end. The dealer refused to drop the price by a single penny and seemed to suggest they had bought the car for £14500. I simply pointed them in the direction of the Skoda website, the same Glass's and CAP guides they'd used to value my car and said if they weren't going to drop the price to at least £13k I was going to walk.

So I walked.

Now try a few more dealers, if you really want one - over the internet initially, Worth going the extra mile in my view.

Best of luck mate.

You did the right thing,

They may sell it for that price to some poor sod who thinks they are getting a good deal. At least you're not that poor sod!

Or in a couple of weeks when it still doesn't shift and its taking up valuable space in their dealership, you may get a little phone call from them....

As we get to the second half of February and the new 15 plate cars being Registered & they get more desperate to shift used cars,

remember to say that was what you were prepared to pay, but now they need to Spice the deal.

Same with most Skoda or Seat Dealers.

Buyers market on Used Cars they can not shift, they are not as rare as hens teeth.

You were wise - the dealer must be very confident that some uninformed and gullible mug will walk through the door some time soon, that car is priced way over the odds.

This is a reasonable negotiating starting point for your White /black vRS.http://www.skoda.net.r66.co.uk/carview.aspx?id=604685191

Negotiate over the phone/email - nice drive down for a day out, if you can save a few £k in the process.

Then arrange servicing at your local unreasonable dealership. Holding back the two fingered gesture, as you drive away!

That's a nice looking car. I see the local one still hasn't reduced the price. It's as though they don't want to sell it! Come March the value will have dropped further by virtue of the new registrations coming out.

As it is I've just been offered a new job with a company car so sadly I'll not be needing to negotiate - although I did enjoy it I admit. Thanks for your help everyone.

Good luck with the new job.

So now it's what company car will you be selecting?
