Fabia VRS - What should I look for?

Hi everyone this is my first post here.

I've read through the forum quite a bit and it seems there are a number of issues with the 1.4 TSI engine in the Vrs. I'm looking to purchase one and was wondering what I need to look out for, what questions I should be asking the dealer and so on.

The model I'm interested in is a 2014 (64 plate) model with approximately 4,000 miles on it. It's coming from a Skoda dealer and from speaking to the dealership appears to be a dealership employee's car - so I'd imagine it's been used for demos etc.

It may be a "dealership employee's car" but if it's registered keeper is the dealer it will have been used as a demo.

In other words probably driven quite fast and not always when the engine is up to temperature.

 

If you are not keeping it longer than the warranty it's not really an issue though.

As BossFox said, more than likely a dealerships employee car.

 

Therefore it may not have been treated with the respect or mechanical sympathy that a private owner may have provided.

 

For most cars this may not be an issue, but for the highly strung 1.4tsi I would be wary. Especially if you are planning to keep the car for longer than the warranty period.

Hi both. I'm planning on keeping the car for 3 years maximum so I won't be running it much beyond the manufacturer warranty period.

That was my concern in relation to the engine - I'll get more of a feel for how the dealer has 'sold' the car to prospective buyers when I go for a test drive this week and see how he suggests I try it.

Ask them to be honest and was it driven by an employee but owned by skoda UK or the dealer, then get them to talk proper discounted price because the car could sit long Enough if you do not buy it.

What do you mean by proper discounted price?

It will probably have 95 Ron petrol in. And dipping the oil cold should give an indication if the sales person or workshop put the correct Amount of oil in when topping up. You do not have 3 years warranty now. So bargain for more discount to buy extended in the future. Tell them you are doing them a favour buying it.

Much cheapness. 12,500 maybe. 13,000 max.

Not having seen the engine or dipstick in a vrs presumably it has the volume written on it? I know I'm looking for 3.6 litres based on what I've seen here previously.

Cold it should be above the crosshatch and not at the top orange marker. Too many get over filled.

Get increased warranty at minimum at dealers expense as part of the negotiation.

As George says get the price down.

Is it in the Skoda Used website. can you post it up.

I've looked on autotrader and 64 plates with satnav and fewer miles are going for less than £15 k so I knew the price was steep.

It does have climate and cruise but as those options were only 240 and 175 new that won't bump it up that much.

Agree,should be more like tops £13500 even if it's a loaded spec.

Stay tough! they want your cash!

e.g. I got over £4500 off a pre-registered Golf R with a delivery mileage of 25miles. Also very top PX PRICE.

So with 6000 on the clock you should do a good deal

You have to remember that the MK3 Fabia is out now. So in effect you are looking to buy the 'old' model. Ok a MK3 VRS hasn't been announced, but even so £15.5k is steep.

Remember this;

 

They want rid of that car more than you want it. Don't let them make you think they are giving you a good deal until they get that price down. Obviously if you have fallen in love with it and are happy to pay that price for ease of purchase then fine!

 

There are a lot of VRS's for sale, use that to your advantage to get the best deal.

 

If you are buying through PCP than just be wary of the predicted value of the car after the term finishes, VRS's don't seem to be holding their value well so it's ideal that you get that purchase price down.

The dealer probably have £2.0k profit min in these cars but really they want to get rid and have cashflow from a run out model as Ally suggests

They are making plenty, it is a 3 month old /3,000 mile Demonstrator they got from 'Skoda' for Much Cheapness,

& some Salesperson had the perk of putting the miles on it.

 

Is it even at 4,000 miles yet?

 

Plenty fully loaded Bargains at various UK Dealers, & £15,500 Asking is them wanting to ring every penny from it,

and that is their job, so fair enough.

Only they are asking £3,000 more than they deserve.

 

Ask the Salesperson about CAVE Engines & CTHE & failing CTHE & Spark Plugs & Service Intervals,

Wind them up.   

& ask if they every heard about a Plonker Called George that killed the Residuals,

 

& the vRS Expert call vhx26

 

Maybe Print this & show the salesmanager and offer them £12,000
