octavia mk2 facelift clock spring problem

Featured Replies

Hello all, I hope this hasn't been posted before, I searched the threads before posting.

The clock spring in my octy is gone, confirmed with the dealer. My question is has anyone fitted a replacement not bought from the main dealer. My main dealer wants near 300 Euro for the part but they are on eBay for approx 70 Euro delivered.

The eBay one has a years warranty and is allegedly manufactured in Germany.

I am having a dispute with the dealer who is reneging on the warranty and if I can't get them to fix it under warranty I would hope to source the part elsewhere.

Thanks in advance

What part number are you after?

I have my original one available

Thanks for the reply Eddie, to be honest I've just found all this out today so don't know the part number as of yet. I will try and find out and get back to you. I'm hoping the dealer will do the honest thing and fix it..pigs will fly!

Thanks again Eddie

Hey guys - how did you figure out it's the clock spring? What were the symptoms?

Fx: The horn in my Octy would randomly shout when I turn the steering wheel - hence, for now, I removed the fuse.

change the slip ring  / module

That's what I plan on doing.

Already got myself a used one from a Golf V. Done a continuity test on it and it seems fine, BUT, I have no idea what the "default" position for it is...

In total, it can do a lot more than just 3 complete turns so I guess I should count how many it can do and find the middle?

I was wondering if it would be safe o try it out first before fitting the steering wheel back on just so I don't have to pull it apart too many times? Can the horn be activated if I just plug the airbag into the module once it's in place?

Hi, my Octavia mk2 facelift (registered sep 2010) has a broken clock spring, but I am unable to get a confirmed part number.

Some say

1K0959653C

but SWAG told me to order
5K0953569AL

However, that part does look totally different from my part when I had a quick peek at it.

There should be 2 arrows which line up to show it is in the central position (ie wheels straight ahead)

Fixed long time ago with a second hand part off ebay. Just be wary when using Golf parts - the plastic bits that the steering angle sensor reads are different so you will need to take it apart and use the one on your existing slip ring. If you search for my thread around here you should see a pic explaining this.
