Fabia vRS TOW BAR

Featured Replies

I am unlucky enough to have a Fabia VRS which I can't tow my Pug 205 Rallye rally car behind. I've seen three vRS's at motorsports events in the north west towing race cars they probably aren't aware of the risks!

I also have a 2005 Polo GT 3dr, not a patch on the Skoda, but proper seat material! Does anyone know if the GT can tow a trailer?

What risks?

What risks?

Insurance voidation risks, I assume.

What???? For towing a trailer???

Youve lost me mate !!!

Others have harped on about it on here and said that the vRS shouldn't but saw an old coger at my local refuelling outlet with a vRS with a tow bar I asked where he got it and he told the Local Dealer to Gloucester had installed it for him!!!

So cant be that much of a prob.

The vRS isn't type approved, so legally shouldn't tow anything. If you do (and you can) then your insurance company has a free get-out clause if it can prove you're towing contributed to any accident (which if you have one while towing I'm pretty sure they can reasonably say).

Its states in the handbook and the website that the VRS is NOT designed to tow anything, as mentioned will void your insurance, and may damage your car/cause an accident.

You could always swap your VRS for mine PD100 ;):)

It is so frustrating but very true nevertheless - no type approval means it's not legal to tow with it, even though the car is quite capable of it due to the torque, improved brakes, etc, and the PD100 based ones are (as smugly mentioned :P no offence meant ;) heheee) definitely type approved :D

That's the one place where PD100 owners really DO get one over on the vRS ones

(that said it would be interesting to find out if Jasons PD1xx 'mildly modified' is ok to pull trailers with :D )

The Fabia vRS would look pretty bad with a tow bar on the back anyway. IMHO if you want to tow anything dont buy a vRS

They fairly cure those annoying 'touch parkers' though!

You could be prosecuted as well. The police can prosecute if you tow over the manufacturers maximum or if the unit is "Dangerous" or if you are causing an abstruction.

As Skoda say the vRS isn't suitable for towing their maximum limit is 0kg.

The maximum for a PD100 is 1000kg, the estate version is actualy in practiicle caravan magazines best budget towcars section.

I wouldn't tow a car transporter with something as small as a Fabia or Polo though. I used to rally and car+trailer+a few bits easily gets the weight up unless it's a single seater jobby. More of a concern is nose weight on car transporters and the Fabia is only rated at 50kg max.

Check with VW's website or the local dealer?

As for the fabia surely you must have checked before you bought the car?

It's a strange one they are type approved in 5 EU countrys but not in the rest.

So if say you had it fitted in Germany with the correct EU towbar ( all are) then not a lot they can do under EU law but mind and carry the German receipt in the glovebox.

Sell them both and get a proper service barge.
