cruise control stalk acting weird

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My cruise control has been acting weird for a year now, not working most of the times and when it does work the speed regulator doesn't work or half works most of the times, and my garage told me that the stalk on which the cruse control sits is faulty and needs to be replaced. Now they told me that that will cost me 150 euro to let them replace it which is just an insane amount of money :o

Can anyone here tell me how to replace this stalk on my Octavia II?

Thank you in advance and all help will be appreciated!

Try cleaning the contacts on the crusie control switch first using contact cleaner.  It opens up by prising apart gently.

Thank you for the possible solution, but can you explain to me what I should actually open up? Because I have no idea on what to open up (sorry my first language is not English so sometimes I don't understand things fully...)

I have a spare stalk in the garage that i don't need any more. I'll check the part number and let you know.

They go manky after a few years. Quick clean usually does the job.

If you use something plastic to split the stalk that'll save damaging it.

Just checked my spare..  it's got two labels on, part numbers below  - if your cleaning doesn't fix it and you want mine let me know.

Speak with Eddie-NL on here he usually has a stalk or 10 laying around... Its an easy enough job to replace them about an hour once youve done one before so Id set aside a couple to do it...

A possible (hopefully permanent) fix to this problem is to coat the contacts on the circuit board with a sliver of solder, on both sides. (the contacts on the end of circuit board that push back into the stalk).

If you look closely when taken apart the silver connections are almost see through, (on mine anyway) therefore very little to contact to, so making it easy to lose connection.

I have done this and it is working so far. Definitely worth a try if you have a solder iron.

Just saved my mate a fortune by re-soldering his battery connection inside his remote control fob. Works perfect now.
