Replacing console bushes...What else?

Featured Replies

Hullo,

At my last MOT I was given advisories on both console bushes, with a comment of "Replace them next time you get it serviced". A little digging round tells me that the console bushes are what is replaced when you fit the WALK...So I'm thinking that may be the route to go down as I'm a firm believer in upgrading rather than directly replacing if at all possible.

Question is, what other bushes and paraphernalia should I look at replacing when I've got the lower wishbones off to do the console bush/WALK?

You will likely find the small front wishbone bush may need attention.

While in there, anti roll bar bushes and links could be checked over.  Don't forget ball joints, track rod ends, the state of the CV boot and road springs and dampers.

I have the Superpro ALK bushes.  Not sure how much difference they make - I had a RARB at the same time so no direct comparison.

I probably wouldn't bother come replacement time, but instead go for the Audi S3 solid bush.  Not only much cheaper, but on the comparison drive I had, tightened up the steering nicely.

The cash you save will help pay for a decent alignment, which if you haven't had it done yet will transform your car.  And likely save you a bit on tyre wear.

I had the S3 bushes fitted and they do tighten up the steering feel, and as mentioned much cheaper than poly bushes or the WALK kits.

Double post!

yep, s3 bushes here too. superpro does give you better geometry though..

Is the better geometry worth the larger price?

Should I attempt to source S3 parts for wishbone bush and ARB bushes as well?

I'm beginning to think not.

Its your car,  £100+ compared to <£30 - your choice.

Yes.

Cool, anyone know part numbers?

No idea, but I think you need just the bush, the various alloy housings are not all the same.

There has been a thread very recently quoting #'s for the S3 bushes (if that's what you are asking?)
