New owner since yesterday - need some advice!

Featured Replies

Hi all

So I bit the bullet yesterday and purchased my first skoda. Have gone for the Octavia VRS Estate Petrol in Race Blue. My god she is a beast. Got rid of my Scirocco for this.......going to be a new father in 3 months and I have 2 dogs......the scirocco just wasn't going to cut it!!

Anyways, I purchased the car on the understanding that it was a repo car. The car itself is a '13' plate with only 13000 miles on the clock. It's in mint condition. The dealer explained to me that the previous owner could not keep up the payments. The car has no spare key or service history book. He did tell me that they are chasing this matter up but all was good. The dealer that I bought from have serviced the car (said it was the first service) and have gave me a sheet as evidence. They did have the logbook (v5) which was filled in while I was there and he was going to send it off.

I have checked myself and there is no outstanding finance on the car.......I panicked when I got home last night and done an HPI check. I know I should have done this before but I'm not totally clued up when it comes to buying cars.

What can I do to double check the service history?? Can I get a new service book?? As said the dealer did say they are chasing it up but I don't know how much to believe. Also there is a spare key floating about out there, how much of an issue is this if I don't get it? Can I get another??

I do love the car and I would be looking to keep it for at least 5 years. I will be keeping it serviced every year. When the time comes to selling will the car be easy enough to sell??

I'm looking for any good constructive advice here on how I should move forward.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

Is it not the case that this car was supplied after Skoda stopped supplying Service Books with new Skodas,

and the Dealership have the Service record and Warranty Record on the Skoda Database.

& if the Car is Serviced at a Skoda Workshop, or any VWG Workshop the Servivce Record is in the Screen at the Computer

at the Service Reception.

So that is what they did.

Call Skoda UK Customer Services Milton Keynes yourself today to confirm.

So was the car from Skoda Specialist Cars Aberdeen, part of the John Clark Motor Group?

Call Skoda UK Customer Services & check the cars Past History, Ownership as Leased, Company etc,

& Service History.

Was it on Fixed Servicing 9,400 miles /372 days or Variable Servicing.

Enjoy your new car.

All should be well, but as always with Dealers & Sales people always have them write down what comes from their lips,

and have them sign that.  Some might be related to Tony Blair.

I see you're in Aberdeen; talk to Specialist Cars about the service book (or are you already?)

They may also be able to help with recoding the car so that the "wild" key won't work the remote locking or the ignition any more.

At 6YO, I doubt anyone will worry much about an elderly HP default like that.

Also, when it comes time for a new cambelt, get the water pump replaced. The usual life of a water pump on a VAG petrol turbo is about 1.5 cambelts and it's as much work to change the water pump separately as it is to change a cambelt so it's good preventative maintenance.

Thanks for replying George.

The car was bought from a used car garage on the west coast of Scotland. I had an 8 hour round trip to collect it. The dealer did mention that everything was done on computer now. So I should just phone up customer services to find this out?? Will give them a call.

As for the servicing, I'm not sure if it was on fixed or variable.

I'm hoping all is fine. The car isn't even 2 years old that's why I'm staying positive. Just that wee voice in the back of my head telling me I should have checked all this first!!

Hi kenoneill

Going to talk to specialist cars today to see if they have any info about the car.

Thanks for the advice with the cambelt and waterpump. Will keep that in mind.

As I said above, I have small worries - should have check all this first but I love the car. Driving it back up to aberdeen yesterday could see that people were looking at it thinking......is that a Skoda??

Was it by chance from Ayr?

A favour.

Are you in Aberdeen now.?

I have to set off for Dyce to CHC to meet a 11.14 Arrival,  Flights not up to date on line and showing Helicopters taken off.

How is the Fog?

& i see that Crashes at Marshal Trailers, how is it this morning, Getting Warmer?

From Dunbartonshire. Have read reviews on the garage and it is reputable.

And yeah I am in aberdeen. Weather here is fine. Frosty but no fog. Sky is blue. I would say watch the roads.

As I am typing this a chopper flying over my house. Haha

Cheers.

Time to head then, frozen fog here 55 miles south and many many with just DRL's on. LOL Not.

Give me a shout anytime if i can help.

(??  Why is the Town Dumbarton

& yet it is Dunbartonshire, that will be my thought of the day. Some days i sit, and some days i sit and think?)

Epic, 1 hour Fides to bridge of Dee. Blue skies but flights delayed by hours.

Still sitting in Dyce. Sunny and chilly and should have come in not a Skoda. Back is dead.
