2006 Octavia II Ambiente 1.6 VCDS help

Featured Replies

What are the most popular common software tweaks for this car? Which tweaks affect MPG for the better or worser? Can VCDS update the car software and reset the software to factory settings? Can VCDS run proper diagnostics like the £ tens of thousands pounds machines in the Skoda dealers?

What are the most popular common software tweaks for this car? Pre F/L cars are a bit limited, alarm chirps, auto locking/unlocking (anti hi-jack), selective unlocking, disable seatbelt warning, etc

Which tweaks affect MPG for the better or worser? The timing can be adjusted on some engines to increase MPG

Can VCDS update the car software and reset the software to factory settings? No, yes

Can VCDS run proper diagnostics like the £ tens of thousands pounds machines in the Škoda dealers? Yes

Ok great.

Regarding the timing for increased mpg, does it affect the performance or make the engine work harder in anyway?

Is there a software tweak that makes the green indicators sound louder in the cabin as at the moment I cant hardly hear them.

How do I reset the software on my car without using VCDS?

Disconnect the battery for one hour.

Regarding tweaks: average consumption correction, auto remote windows closing, rain closing, cornering lights (but probably not on MY2006), coming home, leaving home,  DRL enable, DRL enable in fog lights, tear wiping DISable, etc... Not so limited :D  :D .

And of course tweak that you do not need a VCDS for: one click button to turn off/on Climatronic. Almost best of all tweaks.

Great, what is the tear wiping DISable tweak?

Ok how do I do the tweak for 1 click button to turn off/on Climatronic?

Is there a tweak to turn off the cigarette lighter after locking the car?

Yes, it is, but not with VCDS :D . You have to phisically reconnect it from constant plus to plus controlled by key turn.

It disables tear drop wiping  :). In Slovenia they use a lot of salt in the winter and this last wipe usually smeared all the dirt on the window. Though in rain it works ok.

Take out the upper part of the middle circle button (with credit card for example ;)) and break the small part (cca. 2mm long) at the back of button.

Ok any more tweaks for this car?

That should be enough... :D

Anyway, not that I remember. Oh yes, one more: american style front blinkers as parking light: though this is probabyl illegal in UK. :D

When I disconnect the battery for 1 hour to let the car software reset to default settings, After connecting the battery do I have to do any manual re-programming? Does this re-programming require VCDS or can I do it without VCDS?

You will have to reset the clock, and that is all.

You sure? I just looked at the threads in these forums and drivers are saying all sorts or warning lights come on dashboard after battery re-connection and they all had to be manually re-programmed like for e.g. steering warning light has to be manually re-programmed by full locking steering wheel left/right etc.

Been there, done that a few times (2006 Octavia 1.6MPI) and not even once I had any problems.

On newer cars light for power steering comes on, but it recalibrates itself after a 100m drive. And that's it.

You should only get the yellow steering light come on. Backing my car in a straight line off the drive is enough to reset it. You will also need to reset the clock and the one touch function on the windows - just open and close them all fully.

Correct, I forgot about comfort window open/close function, that needs reset.

You can also enable the 2nd rear fog light, emergency brake lights flash and hazards flash under emergency braking.

With it being an Ambiente it won't have fog lights or the rain/light sensor.

Phil

Ambiente had front fog lights, Active was without them. Though this could be also country related...

PS: I do not give information about 2nd rear fog light. Sadly in Slovenia people usually do not understand when the fog light should be on, and already with one there is more than enough lighting :)

In the UK the Ambiente didn't get front fog lights. Active wasn't a model available here.

I installed my new battery today. The old battery was disconnected for more than 1 hour before reconnecting the new battery however I was surprised to see that my radio stations preset setting were not lost after reconnecting the new battery.

I thought the whole car software and ECU reset to default values after disconnecting the battery for more than 1 hour?

Not everything is. Certain stored values like this are kept.

I bought the car used within the last 2 weeks and like to give the car a fresh profile for the new keeper that is me.

Why?

Apart from radio stations there isn't anything else retained that could make a difference. Just retune the radio.

Ok the radio stations are still there and they haven't been lost as I mentioned earlier. Yeah I might as well leave it. I just thought its best to fully hard reset the car before applying software tweaks via VCDS. Its common practice for computer users to reset/uninstall software to start fresh or update software to avoid software conflicts/corruption.

As Jeremy Clarkson says most modern cars are run on computers lol.

Your car contains a number of "computers", but really they can only perform a limited number of set tasks rather than general purpose computing, so not really a useful analogy.
