HI, hopefully I should be taking a look at a nice 1.9tdi on friday, I've been through the forum and come up short of a buyer's guide. The price won't be up for discussion as it's a part ex from a dealership but what should I look out for? Or will every thing be pretty much the same if I look at a vrs specific buying thread?

I'd ignore the vRS specific threads!

 

As it's a PD engine just make sure it has a full service history using the correct oil spec - using the wrong spec can damage the camshaft. Also check whether the timing belt (and water pump) has been done. If it has been looked after the engine is pretty much bullet-proof.
