Cleaning applicator pads?

Featured Replies

Sorry for all the threads, keep thinking of new things ready for the big clean haha

What do you guys do with applicator pads? Do you keep one for a certain product? Or just use them for all? Or do you wash them in between uses?

Also, which ones would you recommend? I'll be using them for AG SRP and Jetseal 109 primarily.

For both your choices I'd use a mf applicator pad. In general I think people use mf pads for creams and foam applicators for the solid stuff. I used the above with my hellshine spray and some Kent equivelent ones when I put jetseal 109 on my Dads camper van a few months ago. I washed both out after to reuse them again. HTH

I use MF pads for liquid products and sponge applicators for waxes or paste products

Why..Leakage more than anything

Sponge will work with liquids, but MF coated sponge is better

Nice one

Let me know how you get on and dont forget some photos

I wash my pads in the sink with fairy liquid & then put them in the washer with my cloths on a 40deg wash & use Woolite as my cleaning liquid, no powders or softners.

I don't wash the ones that I use for tyre gel.

Quick update, just waxed a mates BMW & I purposely used 2 applicators, washed both of them out in the sink using washing up liquid. Then on one of them i massaged some Woolite into it, left the other one alone.

Popped them in the washer & although they both came out relatively clean, the woolite one was visibly cleaner.

I can see a mission taking place to look into this woolite stuff soon.

No mission needed Phil

Been using Woolite for years

I buy mine at Sainsburys

This is what it looks like:

Can this be used in place of conventional detergent/washing powder by SWMBO?, or can it only be used on non coloured stuff?.

I'm sure I saw something like that in Asda last week, time to have a proper look methinks.

Yes it can..but its expensive for ALL the washing I think

Yes, never use powders if washing MF cloths or applicators though as any powder that does not dissolve can stay in the cloths & scratch your paint.

Thanks for that, already written on her shopping list as we speak. :D

You're welcome, good man

I have one polishing pad that I use for applying Menzerna Powerlock to cars.  The gunk is real weird as seems to refuse to wash out.  Therefore I now have a permanent "powerlock" pad.

Everything else is cleaned - and as above - got some woolite but yet to try it on a batch of used microfibres.
