Polisher/Sander - Advice

Featured Replies

Hi All, Occasionally I have to t-cut out some scratched an bird poo etches from my wife's or my car. I get fed up with manually rubbing for ages to bought one of those dual handle orbital polishers that in my opinion do absolutely nothing other than wipe polish or t-cut about in a wiggly fashion and occasionally fling the bonnet off. Anyway, this is now back in its box, and i swear I will never use it again. E-bay will have it soon.

Anyway, I want an angle grinder/sander/buffer now, mains voltage. Its only going to see the light of day once or twice a year, does anyone have any advice on which one to get. Just a budget one that will do the trick please.

Thanks,

A budget one is probably what you already have, a dual action polisher such as a DAS6 is probably the cheapest best option.

I wouldn't recommend t-cut with it, perhaps a polish such as Scholl S17 maybe better. But it's difficult to say without knowing how bad the damage is, what the paint readings are etc etc

I bought one like this:

Not this exact one, actually one a bit better but of this order. It just wiggles around and does nothing. I'm better off using elbow grease and spending more time.

The DAS 6 is more like what I am after, but perhaps a bit more than what I want to pay, the scratches are only light loading and unloading scuffs and hedge scratched and the occasional car sliding down the bonnet type marks i was imagining a grinder/sander type bit of kit like the DAS 6 that i could run over them with in about 5 minutes. And I can use it to Sand and grind etc, not just polish.

More like the Silverline one?

If you don't really know what youre doing and/or use the wrong polish (TCut), you can very quickly ruin your paintwork

Your safest option is to bite the bullet and get a Dual Action Polisher...Read up on the techniques and buy the correct pads and polish for the job

If you fancy going rotary I recommend the ep801. It's not too expensive, and has soft start and adjustable speed. Also not too heavy to wield. :)

I've always toyed with the idea of getting a DA.  Is there any recommended product that is cheaper than the DAS6?

Not really... unless someone is selling one

The DAS6 is probably the cheapest "best" entry level machine on the market. Keep a look out on eBay, Detailing World, a bargain crops up every now & then.

All the above look good, I might invest in one

Have you used for it before? Worth a go?

No..You were asking if I knew of one

So I looked on eBay and this popped up

It looks similar to the Popular Das-6

It looks like a good buy, due to everything you get with it

I dont know your budget

Trying to help...Thats all

Thanks. Apologies for the all the questions.  Really I have no set budget, but it's something I would like to try out, but then OTOH, it's something that'll only come out 3-4 times a year.  Will read up on that ebay on and see what reviews it has and what guarantee comes with it etc.  Your expertise and help is greatly appreciated :)

It is my birthday in 2 weeks... hmmm :D

That's the idea.  Parents are asking me afterall... 28's not too old right? :D

Anyway, a lot of the kit in that ebay one I either already have, or have coming in the post from juicey detail.  So would this be a better purchase for me?

I really looking for a replacement to SRP hand polishing and to remove swirls.  Would I need a fine pad? I'm still working my way through the PDF you linked earlier, http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/images/misc/dapolishing.pdf.

That buy from CYC is a good one

You will need two pads

A medium one with Medium polish

A Soft.Finishing one with Finishing Polish

That CYC Combo is spot on for you

Buy with confidence

BTW..Where are you?
