  • Had a think and I reckon I'm gonna dodge the bullet this time, gonna let the dealer down tomorrow and cancel the loan, just don't want to risk it, thanks for the replies guys.

  • ffs everybody, lay off with the scaremongering!   OP: enjoy your new car, I have done over 85,000 miles in these engines with no issues whatsoever, jeez, you might die tomorrow, just enjoy the car!

  • There are actually loads I've not had, including the later MPI.

Just specialises in red ones blue ones and green ones,

It's a solid engine and should have nothing go wrong on it!

A colleague recently bought a new 14 plate Polo with the 1.4 in. I tried to persuade her to either stretch to the 1.2 TSI or get a Fabia Greenline as she has a family of 4 and they travel around a lot in the car on trips etc and she was saying how gutless her older Polo 1.4 was. So she went ahead and bought the same 1.4 anyway... ugh!

There's nothing wrong with the engine as such but it's old tech and not very powerful so not suited to lugging a load of weight around.

They actually also sell the Polo with a 1.4 and DSG gearbox surprisingly.
