First problem - sunset

Featured Replies

So... I've had my lovely Octavia just over a month but it has taken until now for me to find a problem (not that I've been looking for one!)

It appears there was a mistake made at the factory that was missed by all the QC, including my own check on collection and the one wash I've given it.
The rear nearside passenger window is not tinted!

You can see that the codes are different - it's missing the 'V' which appears on all the other tinted windows. Oh, and the obvious colour difference!
The sunset really is that subtle that I hadn't noticed but I guess I don't look out that window much :D

A quick email to the dealer and a chase call later and the service department are in touch to start the ball rolling on getting it replaced. I hope my first experience of the dealership service department is as good as the sales experience has been.

oops!!

are the side windows are held in  with rubbers, or bonded in?

I was warned that sunset is quite subtle..... but still prefer that to being able to scratch the tint off

hope it's sorted soon

It's the normal passenger door window rather than the quarter-light beside it or the boot one, so it should be easy to swap (I hope!).

Sunset could have been a little darker really!

Aah, yeah should be painless then

We had a Seat Altea, with sunset and I think that was a little bit darker....

Ordered Sunset with my car but then looked at a few with it and thought they had 'watered down' the tint ratio. In comparison to my Avensis its much lighter on the Skoda and cancelled that option, so will have it tinted at a specialist.

As I hardly, (If ever,) clean the interior face of windows they should stay in good nick if you steer clear of cleaners with ammonia.

The aftermarket film tints seem to have high UV protection so keep the interior cooler, also my wife suffers from prickly heat and comes out in a rash if too long in the sun so will probably have a lighter - but legal - tint up front.

I will contact Herts Tints who were recommended by another dealer, on their FAQ it says:

Will window film help in preventing fading?

A: Yes. Window film blocks out ultra violet rays, visible light and heat. It virtually eliminates all fading. There are many different factors involved in fading. The main reason is ultra-violet rays. Other factors include visible light, heat, natural aging, interior lighting and more. Because of all these factors no one can technically guarantee "no fading." But a quality window film will stop 99% of ultra-violet rays and a large portion of visible light and heat depending upon which film you choose. But regardless, 99% of U.V. will be eliminated

I did not read in the Skoda brochure that Sunset reduces UV, so I can only assume it does not and is in effect just 'coloured' glass.

a lighter - but legal - tint up front.

I thought the front windows were already pretty much at the legal limit as are most modern cars?

Been 5 months since I was in the drivers seat on a test run, the windows did not look 'tinted' to me but I may not have paid too close attention as I was concentrating on not hitting anything!

UV has very little to do with heating. In terms of energy, sunlight at the earth's surface is around 52 to 55 percent infrared (above 700 nm), 43 to 42 percent visible (400 to 700 nm), and 5 to 3 percent ultraviolet (below 400 nm). If you want to limit the heat intrusion then look for the tints that reflect back most of the infrared.

Car got sorted today. All very painless. Got given a 1.6tdi DSG Octy SE (from what I could tell) as a courtesy car for the morning - so glad I chose to go back to petrol!

Dropped it off just before 10am, picked it up just before 2pm.

They (Listers Skoda in Coventry) appear to have done a tidy job and listened when I asked for it NOT to be cleaned - I shall have that pleasure at the weekend.

So, a very good first experience of Skoda after sales service :)
