Hi! New Fabia Black Edition with a query about VS5

Featured Replies

Hi all!

My girlfriend and I have recently purchased a Fabia Black Edition from our local Skoda dealership in Middlesborough. We actually went in to the show room looking for a Citigo.

We are trying to get her private reg plate transferred and have come across some peculiar sales practices.

The car itself was pre-registered but new with only a handful of miles on the clock; however, the agreement states the car was sold as used with 1000 miles, which is impossible as it has less than 500 now. After waiting four weeks for the VS5 ownership document to complete the reg plate transfer, we called the dealership to asked what address it was sent to. The salesman said they had a Skoda policy to retain the VS5 for three months after sale (just in time for 15' registration me thinks). We called DVLA who told us the VS5 should display the registered owner and where the car is kept and it would be £25 for a replacement.

I'm worried this may affect our insurance as we use it for business and possibly negatively impact our self-employed careers.

Any advice to help us clarify the Skoda policy would be greatly appreciated as this is our first new car experience which is becoming a little uncanny to say the least.

Much Love and Respect,

Hi, welcome. There was another question about this recently and it appears that Skoda dealers get a discount on cars they purchase for demo, showroom cars. Skoda UK seem to stipulate the dealer keeps these cars for a set amount of time, 3 months. It appears to be that some dealers are wanting the best of both worlds and selling these cars before the set period and keeping the v5 till that period is up. So that way they still get the discount from Skoda and the purchase price from you. I know I would be asking the dealer for the v5 as most insurance require you to be the registered keeper. And tell them you will be contacting Skoda UK.
