Boot opening temperamental.

Featured Replies

I know it's common! But can someone put it in simple terms.

Had it serviced. Get it back and the boot now only opens on the key button. I've managed to open it once with the handle.

I'd imagine it just needs stripping out and cleaning.

But exactly do I need to replace if it persists? Locking module? Is it under the dash?

Thanks all.

The boot is electronic, and under the boot lid is simply a switch. It's not mechanically linked to the latch.

If it pops open fine with the key fob, the mechanism is fine and the release switch simply needs sorting,

Have you had a leaky rear washer? Mine did and leaked into the release button, corroding the contacts.

It's also possible that the contacts have become disconnected as I also had that beforehand.

Pull off the boot trim, and it's simply 2 torx bolts that hold the switch in place.

If it doesn't open normally on the fob, have a look below. The mechanism is a spring loaded actuator,

Top man! That's exactly the explanation I was looking for. Thank you.

I have a Fabia 1.2 HTP Classic Estate, I had a similar problem where my boot release button wouldn't work and I had to open the boot using the manual release every time. I took the trim off, I undid the 2 torx bolts and noticed that one of the wires connecting to the button was loose. I simply cleaned it up and soldered it back on and it worked perfectly. Spent £10 on a soldering iron and saved a tonne.

The hardest part is getting the trim back on...
