Air con issues

Featured Replies

Hey guys been having issues with my air con. It was working just not very cold. Had the air con regassed and worked for about 2 days then stopped blowing cold again. Returned to the garage that did it and they returned it to the machine. Ran a vacuum test and checked pressure. Pressure was ok and system held vacuum but they inserted some dye just to be on the safe side.

Again worked well for 2 days then stopped. We have both looked all around the car with uv light and cannot find any signs of leak. Their machine States that the correct amount of refrigerant in there but VCDS shows low refrigerant pressure.

Compressor clutch is activating.

Any ideas?

There was a similar thread very recently.  Apparantly the perforations can be so small they cant be seen, even with the dye.  A charge with another gas is needed to find the leak.

Perforations where?

A 3rd charge? I paid for first, second was free but they are probably gonna charge me for a 3rd. This could get expensive.

leaks - if you lost pressure for second time, garage guys are idiots for not checking what is going on.

I checked round for leaks after the 2nd time with the garage guys. I'm a qualified mechanic and air con qualified too and couldn't find a leak.

Machines are saying refrigerant pressure is ok though. VCDS brings up a fault saying low pressure.

I have posted about a week ago with the same problem. My car has got new compressor fitter, new O rings twice, new valve fitted. Fortunately all this was done ynder warranty.

Now the dealer is talking about changing the condenser or the pipes coming to it. But they are not sure whether it will cure it lol. Very assuring i know.

I dont think i will be bothered with spending some money unless dealer will be picking up the bill. But thats another story.

Don't think they have a clutch on the air compressor, its wrong type of compressor for a clutch.

It may be the high pressure switch faulty, reading low pressure and not allowing the system to work. quite common.

Cool I shall have a look at that. Thanks.

Ok I've never worked on VAG air con but am qualified to do so (worked for Nissan for 10 years, not many vw's ever come in) am I right in thinking that if I remove the pressure switch that there will be a scraeder valve underneath to prevent gas from leaking out of will I have to have the air con drained and refilled afterwards?

Couple of years ago my local A/C specialist took 4 attempts to locate a leak in the condensor/dryer. He finally found it, but had to take the car into his unit so it was dark enough for him to see the UV dye, the leak was that small.

That took about a week between refill  and the start of the strange noises from in the dash and another week before the AC stopped working.

Good luck

Yeah mines been weird. Worked ok straight after regas. Nice and cold on way home. Parked up and following day didn't use car. Day after that got in car and no air con. Blowers come on and blow but nothing happens when you turn on aircon just warmish air and no difference between auto mode and Eco mode. But pressures seem to be holding.
