As title suggests, does anyone know whether the 1.4mpi mk2 fabia has a timing belt or timing chain?

mk1 MPI 1.4, 8 valve is a chain. Don't know of a 1.4 MPI mk2.

Sorry wrong part of the forum, there is indeed a,1.4mpi 2, just put a deposit on one today lol.

Well in that case, it should be the old 16v 85PS engine that has a timing belt which is best replaced every 4 years or 40+K miles. Reliable engine and it should not need shed loads of money thrown at it, except for the timing belt costs.

Of cheers for the reply, might try wangle a change out of dealer as part of the buy if required :p
