I'm sooo jealous...

Featured Replies

Well, my brother came home from his army posting on Saturday, and because he sold his/my car before he went away he needed a car.

My grandad had a Mk2 D reg Golf GTI from new, he cherished it and always kept it serviced properly (albeit by himself). Its in lovely condition, but last summer, at 99989 miles the clutch went. So he thought sod it, and bought himself a Mk3 with the air con he longed for. (Wishes he still had is original Mk1, but thats a different story  )

Well, it has been sat on his drive all this time with a cover on it. He has a thing for eBAY, and through boredom he fitted central locking, alarm and parking sensors. He really didn't want to sell it.

Well, yesterday he fitted a new cambelt, clutch, changed all the fluids and distributor cap, leads, plugs etc and today it flew through the MOT (and ticked over 100k miles on its way home). Taxed it and sold it to my brother for a poxy

Extremely old cars are worth nothing, no matter what you do to improve it. At least that's how it is here. 600 pounds seems like the right amount for such an old car.

This thing will fetch well over a grand on ebay or similar.

some of those url's will need playing about with, it's been a while since I had a mk2 now.

My advice will be to hang onto it until mk2 Golfs become popular again as they do from time to time then cash in on it. They seem to go in and out of fashion a bit, but they are always worth a few quid in good original condition.
