Underside of the vRS/badge on the engine questions

Featured Replies

Just under the (small!) side skirt on the Fabia vRS I've noticed that the underside is very messy. It looks like the paint is very thick and has been splashed on and left to dry - thats the best way I can explain it. Are all vRS's like this?

Also, after looking at pics of other vRS's with the bonnet open I've seen that the Skoda badge on the engine is a proper coloured badge - mine isn't! Is that right?.. Its a 55 plate one.

First bit sounds like underseal. It should be painted, I'm sure mine is.

And the cover may have changed, but I know they should be colour. They may have changed for 55.

Its painted alright (its all silver). It just looks rubbish cause I could see it from only a few feet away - very messy :(

Cant believe they've changed the badge to non colour now, how much money can it save :/

Can anyone else confirm this?

The factory applies a wax sealant around joints on the body to avoid corrosion.

Perfectly normal.

I can remember my '89 Mk2 Golf GTI having yellowy wax on the inner wings.

Later 05 spec models have the black badges on the engive cover.

Mine is non coloured too (55 reg). What is the problem? Are you going to take your bonnet off? The electrics might get wet!!

Mines black too. So im guessing im about 5bhp down..?? :(

Makes it feel cheap dammit ;) :P

Edit - I've felt the underside and its hard, is this the wax sealant? Certainly doesn't look like a wax of some kind! I'll take a pic tomorrow.. or can someone post a pic of theirs as I might not have access to a bluetooth connection tomorrow.

Strange re the engine badge. Got any pics?

Mine looks messy on the underside too! Think my badge is the right colour too!

Hi,

My VRS (Belgian model :o ) which arrived at the garage last week has the same badging.......

At least you have your car ! I need to wait on plates coming in before I can drive it :finger: :( :( :(

How much and how do you fit them?! :D - that black box is over the right suspension strut

And im the one that doesnt mind the black badge! :P

I like the newer black badges, gives the etched look. If they had been about when I did my centre caps on my alloys I would have used them.

There's a howto on here somewhere but basically you unbolt the accumulator and bang the brace on, then put the accumulator back. Really simple but easier if you've got another pair of hands to swing on the brace and hold it taut in place.

The accumulator fits over it like the first pic, and the whole thing looks like the second pic (though probably cleaner in your case :o )

They're resized phone pics so sorry about the quality.

That looks like sealant to me mate. If you look under any car nowerdays there will be stuff like that along the panel joins and sills etc.

BMW have been doing that for years. The underside of my 1982 E21 3series is covered in really thick waxy-plastic sealant, porpbably why it's still here!!!!
